King Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Ewan Ross @Mentoch 2h2 hours ago @MarshallKelner @DunedinBlueJays Can you pass along what Hoffman's top velocity has been? Marshall Kelner @MarshallKelner 1m1 minute ago @Mentoch @DunedinBlueJays Also was just told the gun is 3 mph low. So he was sitting about 96-99 and hit 101 once.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Good velocity Good K:BB Good GB/FB what else could you want
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Good velocity Good K:BB Good GB/FB what else could you want good results?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 its the minor leagues, the numbers are meaningless probably working on things, doesn't care about score
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 good results? you're the worst Sanchez last outing. Good velocity Good K:BB Great GB/FB Good result Sanchez > Hoffman
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I feel like Jeff Hoffman's upside is Aaron Harang. Can anyone confirm this?

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I give Hoffman 5 starts to work out the rust. Sort of like Osuna last season.

NLJays Verified Member Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Good velocity Good K:BB Good GB/FB what else could you want I want a good K%, and a good GB% http://www.statcorner.com/pitch.php?id=656546 As you can see the only thing he's been good at so far is not walking hitters. You'd expect a guy with his stuff to K more than 16% of the batters he faces though. Hopefully he shakes off the rust.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Hoffman never struck out many guys in College. Doesn't mean too much when guys stuff can change though. I wonder if guys just see the ball out of his hand well. The video of behind the plate seemed like there wasn't much deception in the delivery or anything.

Except that he struck out more than 30% of the batters he faced in his last (shortened) season. It's true that he didn't get many K's in his first two season.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Kiley McDaniel just posted this from his pro start: He throws across his body a lot. I wonder if they'll try and correct that like they did with Norris.

Summary: Better than expected for a guy coming off Tommy John surgery. I don't know if its a good thing Chris King is at FG now. With BP he used to always be in the Dunedin/Clearwater area so he would do a ton of Jays stuff. Hopefully that continues.

So maybe he's with Fangraphs full-time now, or at least a regular freelancer.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Is that Brendan Ryan the one with MLB experience?

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Yes Rehabbing from injury right? It would suck to be a former MLB player and not even make it to AAA.
