BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 The ship really is sinking I agree with GD on this one The pen is not the problem, Wtf! But without a trade, selling the farm how do you improve the starting pitching? Fire the pitching coach? I can't remember in what thread but I gave a few names that are considered to be above average coaches in the college ranks around to a article of top coaches.

I want quotes on our pitching situation. The offense can't score 6 runs a game to bail this staff out. I think we will have to put up with this until the All-Star break, then head's will roll. AA neglected pitching this offseason and instead decided to boost up the offense (which was already a strength of this team), you cannot overcompensate for such poor pitching with a superb offense.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Breathe. Take a game off. Do something other then pound on your keyboard.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Can't blame this loss on Estrada. Still building himself up and he nibbles. The fact that Francis hasn't been optioned or dfa'd is troubling. Get Colt Hynes back up
xposbrad Verified Member Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 oh ok you got me i can't argue with that you win Does SIERA factor in if it's a close game, like say the Jays have the lead, then they give up 1-2 runs and lose the game vs a game when they give up 1-2 runs and we have a 5+ run lead? Does it account for when a reliever pitches out of a jam like when they come into a game with runners on 1/2nd from the SP (so those aren't their ER on base) and they get out of it vs giving up say 1 hit and costing a run even if it isn't their earned run. Giving up a single with no one on, or a single with a runner on 2nd, can it differentiate the two as someone might score?

They ended up with a lower payroll after the moves they made, they just didn't/haven't re-invest/ed the $aving$. You just know they'll now end up giving up more prospects to get pitching. I said it during the off season, it would be better for the long term health of the franchise if it held on to its few remaining upper-minors prospects and instead bit the bullet for a year or 2 and went over budget. I know 135M should be enough to field a contender, but once they took on Reyes and Buehrle's deals, they had to know what payroll would look like in 2-3 years. If they didn't see the payroll constraints 2 years ahead, then the team prez and owners are just hopeless. The team actually made some potentially good pick-ups for the bullpen in Matt West and Preston Guilmet, only to lose them for nothing. Someone in that F/O is giving good advice yet the dumb side always seems to win out.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Jays' bullpen is 11th in SIERA with 3.45. Jays' rotation is second last with 4.89. Really, really not a pen issue. Wow, I'm pretty surprised, I thought we would be last or near last. What about blown saves?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Not sure but the bullpen is the least of the worries on this team when it comes to pitching!
