No it's not. Not during the season.

You do realize this is likely AA's last year if he doesn't make the playoffs. Any type of a Bautista/Encarnacion trade would come in the off-season. (Once a new GM/CEO is hired)

Might as well trade Hutch, Pillar and Donaldson while we're at it and build around Travis, Pompey, Stroman, Norris, Osuna.

You forgot Castrances and HOFman.

I really hope you understand the difference between trading Eddy/Bau over the guys you just listed

I wonder if Dickey could get us anything at the deadline?

If starting his next start through the end of the season he put up these numbers ( 3.71 4.32 4.14) era, fip, Xfip, would you pick up his option....12.5 mil I believe?

You mean Pillar isn't a consistent 3 war player with 6 war potential? Get out!

They might if they are out of it by july/august...but that would mean AA is conceding that the 3 year window is over..

Why move any of those three?

You wouldn't. This is an annoying thing about Toronto media and some of their fans. They think everything is boom or bust, when in pro sports, especially baseball, you can re-build on the fly without going to the bottom of the pile for 5-10 years. But you need the right people running the show. It would make sense to trade players pushing 40 though.

This is a very puzzling comment. All of these guys have 3-4 years of control. Plenty of time to see the young guys develop at the MLB level.

I guess what I am really wondering is if anyone sees a scenario in which one of these guys is traded this season in an effort to improve the pitching. Could one of them, possibly in some kind of package, give the Blue Jays a return that legitimately improves the pitching?

We actually have a decent looking crop of young starters at the moment with Stroman, Hutch, Norris, Sanchez, Osuna, Hoffman, Boyd but Bautista and Encarnacion will likely be gone before they develop.

If they're planning on winning this season, you trade prospects not everyday guys

This team isn't.

We're not? ;-) Plus I'm sure there are teams that would want Beau but u ain't getting s*** in return. He is useless and he has an injury that he caused himself because of his f***ing ego.

I say trade them. They are great hitters but not guys you can count on on at crunch time. Trade them for some real deal prospects and build around Hutch, Donaldson, and the kids.

They both need to be traded, it's not even a question anymore. There are some ace pitchers available next offseason, you can trade them for mlb ready pieces now and look to compete in the short term. We just traded for Travis and he's adjusted fairly quickly after having never even played above AA. I don't know if I trust that AA will sacrifice this year and possibly next when his job is on this line and actually do the smart thing. It's too bad, those guys could net quite a package to a contender this year, granted if they start hitting a bit better again.

Trading Bautista should happen

Should have happened pre season 2014.selfish and definitely not clutch (like Bucky keeps telling us)

Rally killer supreme.

They are not winning this season.

This team has never won. Ever.

247-276 since 2012, highest place 3rd in the division. This team was a flawed experiment and we have ample evidence to prove this.

The issue is timing mismatches all over the place. The last batch of pitching, Romero, Morrow, even Johnson for a year, flamed out and never supported the bats of EE and Joey Bats, how we thought they would. Timing mismatch. Now that we have more young talented pitching coming around, as much as they want to push them, they wont be hitting their stride until 2016-17. Timing mismatch. Now if the Jays are out of it by July, and theres probably a 50/50 shot at that, will Gibbons and AA still be around? I don't see Beeston firing AA, and with his own 1-year deal and all the drama, I don't see Rogers going over his head again, and firing AA during the season. The proper, most likely way, would be to wait till the end of the season when Beeston retires, and let AA and Gibbons and a lot of the staff go. Clean House. The problem with that, will AA trade EE and Bautista this July if we're out of it, when their value's will arguably be at their highest points? Will AA commit to tearing this down, knowing he won't be around to build it up? That remains to be seen, but that too, ironically is a timing mismatch.

Lets hope this is a moot point, and they can pick up some sort of serviceable pitching in the interim and stay in the race enough... but if not, trading EE and Bautista will be the way to go.

I don't want this F/O trading anymore assets for pitching. AA has used up enough assets to address the pitching, he just happened to screw up by going after guys like Dickey, Buhrle and JJ. When you consider what he gave up, plus the $ coming back, he cannot be trusted to properly value pitching. He's likely to overpay again.

We'll see what happens.

Agreed, although I don't know what the answer is then to fixing this pitching staff this year other than a prayer and a hope. I always wonder what happened to AA during the Marlins deal. Given how basically every free agent does not line up on the basis of $ and Term, and I dont remember specifically, but I bet when asked in the winter of 2011 why Reyes and Buehrle werent targeted more by the Jays, i'm sure he gave his typical value didnt line up response. Then all of a sudden the next offseason, not only are you picking up those contracts (less the bargain first year, at that), but you're also giving up huge prospects for them. I get that Bonifacio and Johnson came back as well and they were supposed to be HUGE parts of the deal...but still, principles are principles, and as maddening as it is when we see free agents sign elsewhere while the Jays mostly sit on the free-agent sidelines, I still cant get over how AA not only gave up on his principles with the long term, high $ contracts of Buehrle, but also traded a lot of his top prospects to get them.

The Duquette off season saga makes perfect sense. If Dan was here then AA likely would have been given until July, if the team didn't perform he gets fired and dan is in place to make deadline deals...but now if they fire AA they have to go through the hiring process and there will be no GM to make deals at the deadline.

I believe Bautista will still have a few good years, and I think with EEs body the decline could come quick. I would be in support of trading them both this July...but it just won't happen with the way the front office is right now.
