S33n Verified Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I understand trading Lind because he's too expensive for a platoon player but I don't think it should have been for estrada. did he used to be good? I expected virtually nothing from him after hearing he was coming to toronto. if I wanted to be 'that guy' I would argue that Happ was the Jays best pitcher over the last few years. But I won't. No, he was never supposed to be good. He gave up the most homeruns of any starter in the NL and Anthopoulous thought it would be a good idea to re-locate him to the launching pad in Toronto/AL East.

AA don't need no stats, he's got his gut feeling and that's a winning idea.... or not There will be a memorial video of all the times he's talked about his gut feeling once he's gone.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I never understood the Happ trade. Our depth was already limited. I understand they didn't expect Stroman to get hurt but I was never a fan of Norris and Sanchez breaking camp. Wanted them both in Triple-A starting. Saunders has a history injury problems and inconsistent play. I was disapointed when he was Melky's replacement. I also didn't want to give Melky 4 years though. Our outfield depth wasn't the greatest. Pillar has played above expectations and we all saw what happened with pompey
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I'd rather have Stroman pitch on crutches.

Saunders has been worth -0.1 so far this year. Melky has been worth -0.2.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 i hope they leave him down there for a couple of months.

Gorlak Verified Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Happ-Saunders and Lind-Estrada are both looking like awful trades. Happ/Saunders is a fair trade and I still think the Jays win it in the long run, But Lind/Estrada never made sense. Why would you bring the most homer prone pitcher in baseball to such a homer friendly ballpark, especially when his decline came with a drop in velocity.

The trade wasnt awful because Saunders is hurt and Happ is playing well. The trade was awful because this teams pitching depth is razor thin. Yes our OF depth is thin too, but you can make due with a replacement level left fielder. SP not so much.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 (edited) Not a contract year for Melky, perfectly normal. I didn't expect anything different. I'm very happy we didn't sign him, I expect replacement level going forward. Edited May 11, 2015 by Deadpool Crappy grammar.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 well at least Norris seems to be having a decent night
Gorlak Verified Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Lind would not have helped this team. offsense is not the problem here. I'm not sure that's how it works.

It's pretty clear they wanted to rid themselves of Lind, which is strange considering the way the whole Navarro saga has been handled. How AA could dispose of Lind in the name of roster flexibility and then cling onto Navarro like he's Mickey f***ing Mantle is beyond me.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 i can't wait until the aa tenure is finally over. I will be rejuvenated as a fan. rip "ninja"
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I'm not sure that's how it works. do you want to review the starting rotation again, might be the worst in the majors.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I don't see how Lind is expensive, He's the long side of the platoon. 8 million for a platoon player? no thanks.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Anyone criticizing the Happ trade can do it only with the benefit of hindsight. It's easy to s*** on Saunders now that he's hurt, but if he doesn't tear his knee he's holding down the fort in a corner sparing us from the revolving door of replacement level crap we've seen in the OF. It was also two years of Saunders for one year of Happ, which is huge.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I don't see how Lind is expensive, He's the long side of the platoon. I don't give a f***...its Rogers money...and I would like to see him in the line up. We wasted so much dough its not even funny with so many other moves.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 8 million for a platoon player? no thanks. $5M for a backup catcher instead?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Please add up the salaries involved in the Happ for Saunders and Lind for Estrada trades.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Its astounding to me that Pete Walker still has a job in Toronto.
