gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 I don't understand the mentality with most players nowadays. Smoak has to know that his job in that AB was to get the tying run to the plate. What f***ing pisses me off even more is that the defence is in a shift, so they're basically giving Smoak the opportunity to get on by just putting the ball in play towards third base. Of course he swings away like he's the tying run and grounds out weakly into the shift. Players are dumb and selfish.

If Smoak had the ability to consistently hit to the opposite field then the shift wouldn't be in place. It's not like he wants to groundout to second.

As a professional, when this type of situation presents itself (which isn't that often), a player has to be smart. These types of qualities are diminishing as players like Smoak are playing for future contracts.

Smoak has pulled nearly 50% of all baseballs in his career. I would never advocate for a pull-first approach, but for some guys it just works out that way. Not everyone can be Miguel Cabrera.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Just came back from the game 1.) About four drunkards came into our section in the 3rd inning already wasted but didn't last it until the 6th. They ordered a dozen more beers before security had to kick them out. They were awesome though, they gave away all their beers to people nearby including me lol. 2.) It was kind of odd seeing 70 year old grand mothers using the oxygen bars in center field. Baby steps to recreational drug use lol 3.) Man that caller to Wilner's show talking about wins and losses was an idiot.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 3.) Man that caller to Wilner's show talking about wins and losses was an idiot. And it just went on and on, too. I think pitchers win-loss record is the dumbest thing invented. I think most people see that now but then occasionally you see this kind of thing still pop up.

I really wanted Wilner to drop a line about Felix Hernandez, like: Wilner: "How do you feel about Felix Hernandez?" idiot caller: "He's an ace, best pitcher in baseball" Wilner: So if you're calling Dickey a bust over a .500 record, how can you explain Hernandez winning the Cy Young with a 13-12 record? idiot caller: haherpaderp
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 btw, how did Tepera look? Seemed to throw a lot of strikes touching 94 and had a wierd herky jerkys delivery.

If it was up to me I'd just say that pitchers don't really win and lose games, teams do, and as such they're a team stat, and just leave it at that.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 btw, how did Tepera look? Seemed to throw a lot of strikes touching 94 and had a wierd herky jerkys delivery. Seemed to have a pretty good slider.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 You've gotta love even the way Travis struggles. Over his lat 10 games, he's hitting .158 yet he has 6BB and 7K. It's even better when Buck keeps pointing to his "struggles" being caused by hitting leadoff. I mean the little guy's OBP is .358, what the f***? Ok, I know Buck is drunk and dumb...
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Seemed to have a pretty good slider. Apparently, he developed a cutter recently to go with the FB and slider. You could see he struck out Napoli with a FB 'round 94MP, then a cutter around 89MPH and a slider with more break at 85MPH. SSS of course.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 To all the robots: What do stats tell us about Travis's D so far? I'd read up on it, but why when robots don't and won't ever get laid and have kids...

We all know its bad, dont need stats we can see him pitch. Dickey has fallen off big time, Even if the Jays lose he has no trade value. What a bad trade.

Things aren't going to get any better, likely they'll get worse.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 You guys want to hear something even more depressing Count the number of baseball players on the current roster actually developed by This Franchise I count Pillar and Goins in the lineup. Hutchison, Sanchez, and Cecil on the pitching side. Isn`t that pretty sad. Even the good players we have were developed by other Franchises. All of the middle order, just about every impact roster player. Out of the list above only Hutchison and Cecil are worthy of the majors right now really.

Things aren't going to get any better, likely they'll get worse. Probably a big part of the reason for the low O-swing%. The fast knuckler generated a ton of swinging strikes. Right now he really only has that mid-high 70s knuckler, and his fastball velo keeps moving closer and closer to it. He might be finished.

I heard some gibberish about him deciding to throw a "slower" KB at the start of the season... and that he was going to walk less guys and throw more strikes... as a result he now has the highest BB rate of his career as a knuckleballer. It seems he should be doing the opposite (not that it's possible anymore) but his lower BB rates correlate with his faster KB.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
