pickoff22 Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 He's probably not a true talent .408 BABIP hitter. As much as people like to focus on his BABIP every time he gets a hit, his offensive production this year is not simply a function of luck.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Funny how he's a .325 hitter, yet barely a positive WAR. Can you smart guys on here explain to me how they factor defence into WAR if you're a full time DH? I was fapping to Edgar Martinez's Fangraphs page today (what an amazing hitter) and I see he get a big negative for defence even though he just DH'd. I guess my point was, what would Colabellos WAR be if he only DH'd this year?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 The positional adjustment for being a DH is what makes the defense negative. In Colabello's case, he's such a horrible defender that he would likely be more valuable playing as the DH. He's a really really really bad defender.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 To clarify, "Defense" on FanGraphs isn't just defense. It's stupidly named. It's a player's actual defensive contribution (UZR, how well they've fielded) + the value of the position they play.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Appreciate Colla contributions (he mashed that ball tonight) but still think we should have kept Danny V. I think he is as good of a hitter (maybe better) and can play a couple of IF positions and gulp....LF. All of them better than Colla which is a very low bar. Colla can really only DH and because of that he needs to hit a ton to stick.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Meh, if he keeps DHing and hitting homers, then yeah. Can't field at all, and anything that is "in play" is going to regress..

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 He's super handsome too. Is the thought of Chris Colabello giving you a boner right now? Sometimes it looks like he has a boner when he's running the bases. Uhmm...
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 What if Goins had CCs bat? What if CC had Goins' bat?

IBTrini Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Just wondered what makes people like you the way you are. I have often wondered why some are so hung up on players' appearances as well (fat/ugly etc) cuz all I am concerned with is how they produce/play on the field. One has already said it was just a nickname but so be it. In my eyes it is making fun at that person's expense yet they play their hearts out. It most probably has more to do with a lack of their own self-esteem or simply an immature individual trying to fit in that particular circle or trying to be funny. Just my take on it.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Uhmm... He's super sexy. What's your point?
Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 What if CC had Goins' bat? if that was the case it would be a moot point because if CC had Goins bat then he would be serving up cones at a Dairy Queen. We wouldn't have heard of Colabello!
