Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Whole outfield alignment is really weird. Saunders in RF, Pompey in LF, Pillar in CF. Why Saunders in RF if he's never going to play there? Come man, you're smart. It's about old school baseball; the tall and strong guy plays RF. Saunders is a power forward.

Why Saunders in RF if he's never going to play there? Because Saunders mainly played RF in Seattle and Bautista won't be playing RF again for a while. EDIT: He's actually played CF the most. But he has played alot more games in RF than LF in 2013 and 2014
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Didn't Saunders grade out the best defensively in RF for the Mariners? If it's a short-term thing, I don't see why not. The more puzzling part is why is Pompey playing LF when Pillar is elite there and Dalton is the long-term CF?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Gibbons is likely sending a message to Pompey, "I don't care that Pillar can't hit rhp, if you don't get it going, he could replace you in CF". I hope not, but then why does he keep finding excuses to bench Smoak? We'll see what happens.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Pompey has a 97 wRC+ and 0.3 WAR. What's wrong with that? What does he need to get going? Oh, I really like Pompey, I'm just trying to figure out why Pompey's not playing CF, it just seems odd. As I said, I also don't agree with Smoak riding the bench so often this early season just to get Navarro's bat in the lineup.
