Weird question: Anyone have any idea how many balls get scuffed up by the turf? I know this year's is softer/longer but I was wondering that after the throw to second when they tried to get Martin at 2B and the fielder flipped the ball for a check to the ump. I'd imagine plastic must scuff them more. Just a random thought.

I think this ump calls strikes/balls on how the pitcher is performing. When Miller was pitching well he was calling borderline strikes. Now that he is battling he is calling them balls. Not the only umpire that does this.
