spats Verified Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I know there is a prospect/ minor league thread but this kid deserves his own. I watched him again vs the Phillies in Clearwater today. His line for the 2 innings was 5ks and a weak groundout to second base. His fastball sat at 95 but he has a knee buckling breaking ball. Even the scouts and Blue Jays personnel were smiling and shaking their heads. I have been coming down here for years and have watched Sanchez, Norris, Osuna and Castro in their early years but I have yet to see some one with this much potential. I will continue the updates until I return home at the end of the month. Btw, Smoral pitched after Hoffman and was predictably wild in his first outing. Saunders also played today in extended spring.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 And they also can become superstars Yes. Albert Pujols, Bautista, Edwin, Corey Dickerson, Goldy. Non-prospects

Enjoy your time down here. You can pick up an extended spring schedule at the Mattick office. Hoffman will be here another month.
spats Verified Member Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 What was Smoral's velocity at? Couldn't see the gun when he was pitching but he was all over the place. His first pitch was 4 ft wide.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Bring him to the majors Another reliever needed
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Where did I say they're the only ones that can become superstars? Go back to your goats. Chupa mis bolas latinas. Lov u bro!!
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Bring him to the majors Another reliever needed You mean as a starter...he will be running circles around Dickey, Hitchison, Sanchez, and maybe Buehrle come July/August...kid has IT...him and Stroman in the same rotation next season will be mind blowing

Maahfaace Verified Member Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 is there any recent video of him pitching this spring?

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 When could he realistically be MLB ready?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 When could he realistically be MLB ready? 2015.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 When could he realistically be MLB ready? Could be mid 2016, but we'll get a better idea once he's back in games some time in May. There's no doubt they'll move him fast as long as he does well so if he ends up this year at AA, you start him at AAA next season and call him up mid-season. Unless he struggles, of course.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Sept 2015 for a cup of coffee provided he starts at Lansing and promoted to Dunedin mid season, and pitches well
spats Verified Member Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 He will pitch in extended spring until they build his innings up. He has only gone 2 so far. He will go 3 next outing and progress from there..will probably start in Dunedin when he's ready and plans are for him to pitch in AA late summer. Wouldn't be surprised if all goes well that he might be a Sept call-up.

Nafro Verified Member Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 He was scheduled to pitch 3 innings today. If someone could update us how that went, if they know, that would be so very much appreciated!

If someone could update us how that went, if they know, that would be so very much appreciated! His outing today was rained out. I will see him in Clearwater tomorrow and report. AA was at the game yesterday to watch the Canadian Junior team. Pompey went 0-3 while I was there, flying out to deep right field twice.
0ctobyte Verified Member Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 is there any recent video of him pitching this spring? Yes, I would very much to see a video of him pitching.
spats Verified Member Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 Watched Hoffman today throw 3 innings. Faced 10 batters..1 hbp, 5 k's, and the others were weak groundouts. His fastball sat at 95,hitting 97 a couple times...out pitch is a devastating breaking ball. In the Jays brass assembled to watch him were Tinnish, AA, Charlie Wilson, Sandy Alomar Sr and one of my favourite players, Carlos Delgado. AA on the phone for an extended period...wonder if there is a move in the offing..he was pacing back and forth seemingly in serious discourse.
