Agree...venting aside...its far too early to access anyone yet. Even Navarro. AA likely was praying he would get off to a productive start and then try to use him for pen help in a deal. He is a frustrating hitter to watch too often. argh.

but we are not judging Navarro on 2 weeks of games, we are judging him on how s***** he has been for years. This movie has a very predictable ending. lol

Navarro threw a hissy fit about not being the every day guy and other teams know that. So any team who MIGHT have seen him as a back up option now know he has a s***** attitude. He can try to walk it back all he wants, but he thinks he's better than he is.

The pitch ends up 6 inches lower than the glove started? most of the people on the board could catch that.

show me a guy catching a ball that ends up 8 inches to the right and have it bounce and be caught for a strike, that would be impressive. lol

My point is Martin is not framing pitches down in the zone which is bizarre.

Forgot to post the below regarding whether or not the team has money left:

Davidi: Jays on track for in-season payroll flexibility.

I don't trust AA to do anything after nothing was done when the Jays were leading the second wild card by 3 games at last years trade deadline.

why would things be different this year. If the Redsox run away with the division, which they likely will, we will be up for a wildcard.

He's given up 4 hits in 7 innings

ERA 1.23

7.1 innings 5 hits 1 ER 3 BB 5 SO

WHIP 1.09

not so horrible.

Plus he actually looks composed, even after he gave up the tying run, he didn't explode like Jansenn used to, closed out the inning and gave up a chance to win it.

Really? I've seen quite a few.

Martin is currently the 2nd worst framing catcher. I really do hope he comes around because this isn't the same player I watched with the Yankees and Pirates defensively.

Cervelli is currently framing the Mona Lisa. Guy is a beast.

Red Sox won't run away with it if their pitching remains crap and they continue to have leadoff issues (Betts is hitting close to the Mendoza line and is looking like he might end up in AAA soon if he doesn't improve.)

I agree.... he's stolen some strikes, but he has also been crossed up when he really didn't know where the ball was going a few times. He is getting better with the staff, but Dickey is a guessing game for anyone. It would probably best for Thole to bring his crystal ball and do all the guessing while Martin learns everyone else.

having Navarro gone would also give a lot less reason to put EE at first as well.

I think the smart kids call that a win win scenario. lol

BTW regarding Martin, he had three straight missed catches catching Dickey inbetween innings. It was ugly. You could feel Dickey's glare.

I wouldn't trust Carruth's data at all when Martin has Dickey to catch. No adjustments are made for pitcher.

Still waiting for BP to update.

Martin's guys are pretty hard to frame I would think.

Dickey, obviously.

Norris effectively wild so can't know exactly where its going. Same with Sanchez + insane velo and movement. Hutch is only guy he gets to catch that would be average to frame.

Currently BP data has Martin as the 5th worst framer in baseball.

Posted
See? Much better than 2nd worst framer.

From what I gather the sample size is smaller with the BP data. But it doesn't matter, both tell you the same thing that his framing has been really bad so far this year.

That's fine if you don't trust him to do anything, but it was widely speculated that they were not allowed to add any meaningful $ last year. This is what the point of the article was.

We'll see what happens....or doesn't happen.

They are a far superior team to last year

Isn't it a bit odd that Cervelli is the best framer on the same team Martin was the best framer? Was he a god before?

I'm pretty sure most posters here were all for Martin catching R.A.

Not me. I wanted Thole on the team and Navarro traded. Doesn't make sense to have Martin catch Dickey. Never did.

The Red Sox' xFIP is 11th best in the majors and 4th best in the AL. "Crap."

Small sample size. And the Sox defense isn't going to win gold gloves (3rd worst in the AL). Playing HanRam and a range-less Victorino in the OF doesn't help. Only Mookie Betts is above average defensively.. Boston shouldn't have put HanRam in the OF and should've traded or released Victorino. BTW, Napoli is losing a step too.. the defense of the Red Sox is going to kill them and make this ground-ball heavy rotation look bad.

I don't agree or disagree with you but you literally just dismissed his post for being a SSS and then the following sentence used a SSS to dismiss the Sox's defense...

If you're going to make an argument like that, make sure not to use the same type of argument 8 words later brother.

Just rewatched the 7th. I think we need a "Hendriks is filthy" thread.

Needed a surprise out of the bullpen and it looks like he might be it. Fastball really playing up and the offspeed stuff looks great.

His stuff plays up big-time out of the pen. Fastball was touching mid-90s today and the slider was filthy.

Other people believed in him too :)

Also, that's a Wilner article lol

yes but you just follow JFAs blindly so you don't count

First game I go to this season and man that was so awesome! Donaldson had the whole dome pumped everytime he stepped to the plate

Hendriks has looked great. Seems like a pretty good decision to not try to sneak him through waivers.

If the Baltimore Orioles were smart, they should extend Caleb Joseph right now and let Matt Wieters walk (QO) after 2015. Edited by Statman

Hendriks offspeed stuff is good but his fastball is flat. He has no command. Leaves almost everything up.

5IP vs. 190IP.

He's a ticking time bomb.

In limited play he could be affective though

Hendriks wouldn't be the first/last failed starter to become a good reliever.

We can obviously see his fastball is err...faster by being in relief, but I wonder if the slider has improved for the same reason or if Pete Walker has helped him improve a la Hutchison?
