Governator Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Part of me thinks the Jays still don't have an idea what their bench is going to look like yet on opening day.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 Can the season just start already? Agreed.. and we still have over a week to go. At least we are seeing mostly starting lineups now. And the montreal games will bring some more entertainment.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 Part of me thinks the Jays still don't have an idea what their bench is going to look like yet on opening day. I think it comes down to whether martin can catch dickey With thole: Tolleson, Smoak/Navarro, Valencia, Thole Without: Tolleson, Goins, Smoak/Navarro, Valencia

Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 + Navarro. Are you also assuming Tolleson will be the OF back up? Just edited to add smoak/Navarro. If saunders is back mid-april, I think they might attempt tolleson as a backup outfielder? With dirks hurt and Viciedo with a $2.5-million salary, I think they squeeze tolleson in.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 + Navarro. Are you also assuming Tolleson will be the OF back up? I think that's a fair assumption with Saunders on the DL and Pillar in the every day lineup. Between Pompey, Pillar and even Travis, there's no need for the emergency OF to be a CF.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I wonder if Gose is playing. Gose will be the starting CF and will be batting leadoff against righties

Saunders returns: Reyes Martin Bautista EE Donaldson Pompey Smoak Travis Saunders Bench: Valencia, Thole, Navarro, Tolleson, Pillar That leaves only a 6 man BP. Would they option Pillar or force a catcher out at that point?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Who is going to be the back up SS? Tolleson can play there?

Losing tolleson wouldn't be the worst thing though.
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Who is going to be the back up SS? Tolleson can play there? I don't know, I think I'd prefer Goins & Pillar on the bench and Tolleson dropped at that point. Still a 5 man bench then regardless.

Still a 5 man bench then regardless. Yeah I like Goins because he can provide excellent defense at both mid infield corners and his s***** bat won't be too much of a problem with our line-up. I think he could do well at 3B if given a try and I hear they are trying him out in the outfield.
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Still having Navarro/dickey's personal catcher really hurts our options My ideal bench would be Goins, Pillar, Valencia, Thole (Navarro traded) At this point I have major doubts Navarro is traded in April, those trades just don't happen often so I wouldn't count on it and I don't think there has been any major catcher injuries this ST from starters yet. Like you mentioned, if Martin is catching Dickey fine so far (it seems that way anyway) then I think they will drop Thole and let Dickey just weep in the corner. Thole apparently has an option to be sent down but I think his veteran status blocks it. I don't know if anyone knows?

Ugh as if the whole option weren't enough to keep track of, there's also the veteran status that can cancel it out thing. I THINK you need 10 years of service for that to apply and Thole only has 6. JFaS could confirm if that's how it works.

Governator Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Luis Perez could pitch today. This makes me very happy.
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 5 years. This makes me sad
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 Someone will have to go when Saunders comes back. We can't have Tolleson as our 4th outfielder/ backup SS all season lol
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Service Time (01/2015): 4.085 That's Thole's? So he's optionable correct? Well that's a major score.
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Thole 4.085 years of service. Really, does anyone give an actual f*** if Thole or Tolleson get picked up on waivers? If Martin struggles with Dickey it's nice to have that option on Thole. It's also valuable so that Navarro can still be traded and Thole utilized as Dickey's prime catcher to give Martin 4 out of 5 starts in that event.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 Give martin a shot in the first few games with dickey? While we continue our search for a Navarro buyer

Tolleson no but the team would definitely care about Thole. Even if Martin catches Dickey, they'll want Thole around as a plan B. The fact that he CAN be optionned to AAA without exposing him is ideal.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Give martin a shot in the first few games with dickey? While we continue our search for a Navarro buyer Can you imagine Martin not catching in the home opener?
