RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Sanchez and Norris should open the year in AAA regardless of performance. Yeah!! At least for the next ten years!!!! No need to use their young arms where results actually matter

You need to put the tweet number like this: "["tweet"]"571306419959562240"["/"tweet"]" just without all those quotation marks.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I'm surprised he got that much.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Just makes it all the less likely he ever pitches in a big league game for us, 2.5 million is a decent sum for the Jays to give to a guy with so many question marks. Would have to look damn near amazing in the spring/minors

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I'm surprised he got that much. I'm not actually. Why else would he be with the Jays and not someone else? It's certainly not for the notoriety and the pitching environment.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 If he doesn't make the starting rotation out of spring training, will he accept a bullpen role or agree to pitch in Buffalo as a potential injury callup?? What else do we know about this deal?
flafson Verified Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I'm surprised he got that much. I'm surprised we signed him, which means we gave him a decent contract. It makes sense though, if he gets to a situation where he's in the big leagues, then the salary is really cheap, if he doesn't, then he gets almost nothing.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Chances are nothing come of this, but this is an excellent gamble. Will he even be ready to be called up by April 28th though?
flafson Verified Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 April 28 opt out means we only have 1 month with him.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 wouldn't be surprised he goes the Vladdy Guerrero route
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 wouldn't be surprised he goes the Vladdy Guerrero route Yeah seems like this has a pretty high probability of not turning out.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Yeah seems like this has a pretty high probability of not turning out. AA is going to have a really tough decision to make if Santana shows any glimmer of hope.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 AA is going to have a really tough decision to make if Santana shows any glimmer of hope. I am pretty sure the opt out is Santans decision is it not?
Ehjays Verified Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Probably means to let him opt out or bring him up. Yeah, like forcing our hand. But like a previous poster states, I too, wonder if he'll even be ready by then.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Any chance he can pitch in relief? I like his chances of becoming a reliever a lot more than a starter, although either one is unlikely.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Yeah, like forcing our hand. But like a previous poster states, I too, wonder if he'll even be ready by then. 2.5 million assures it's not a decision that will be taken lightly.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 AA says he's viewed as a starter,
Ehjays Verified Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 2.5 million assures it's not a decision that will be taken lightly. Exactly, and knowing 3 things, 1) he's not ready for opening day,2) we have to make a decision by Apr 28 and 3) there is 2.5mil on the line.....chances aren't looking too good but we have all spring to see him.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 The April 28 date gives AA and Gibby all of ST and 3-4 weeks of regular season to see how their planned starting 5 are looking before having to decide if they need Santana or not.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 The April 28 date gives AA and Gibby all of ST and 3-4 weeks of regular season to see how their planned starting 5 are looking before having to decide if they need Santana It's not just a question of do they need him but also can he even contribute if they do. Pretty good deal for him though. It will be good for his rehab to work with a club and at the end he either gets 2.5. million or the chance to explore other options.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 “The stuff was still good in the winter,” Anthopoulos said. “The changeup’s still there. He’s a great competitor, a great athlete. And it’s a minor-league deal, so we really don’t have anything to lose.” The change up being there is good, but what about the fastball?

Maybe he's using his changeup as his fastball? Haha
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Still love this move. Like BTS said no one thought a Kazmir or Colon resurgence would happen either. Hopefully he can bring something to the table still, even if its only ~120 IP.

If it does happen, it would be awesome for the Jays to be the benificiaries. If it doesn't well very little lost other than a maybe a bit of time.
