BTS forgets that Sanchez pitch in high leverage situations last year, unless their advanced stats guys have input as to who gets what then I doubt there will be any difference. Gibbons will run with him in the 7th/8th until he can no longer run with him

He's induced weak contact, without using his + curve, there's room for massive improvement in that role.

I could see it. It seems like catching is always in need and I could see a team picking him up as depth.

It's possible but I'm not sure too many GM's want to pay a few million for a guy who puts up less than replacement type numbers and has no arm.

Some of the negative bias in this thread is pretty hilarious.

Cecil is a really good pitcher..vs both lefties and righties. I suppose he looks funny so he shouldnt be counted on to "close out" games though.

Dickey's given us about 220 innings the past two years..yet there's jokes about him not being able to get out of the 6th inning

Hey who called in the party police? I was making a harmless joke in regards to Dickey's trademark 6th inning blues. I don't mind the old Dickster personally, he is what he is at this point. You want to see some real negativity try checking out a gameday thread on here when he's pitching.

I too think Cecil has the vintage closer look with his goggles so I'm not sure what you were getting at there.

Can't wait for the bullpen to cost us a bunchy of games this year. Only way this team has any shot at playoffs is if there are no injures, the young pitchers step up, stroman can maintain his ascent for his first full season, what are the chances all that happens?

To bts real life experience doesn't matter

Only fangraphs matter. Even if jays win the world series this year Sanchez pitches like Eric Gagne he will still be looking at his precious zips

Some people see and still do not believe. Last year I saw the kid dominate hitters in late inning relief. Pretty sold that he can be a front line closer for years to come

AA doesn't believe in injury planning. If you plan for injuries you can't make excuses when they happen

In any case his days are numbered unless the jays either get in the playoffs or come close

I don't know

Your 1 in nine million sperm to get the priviledge of being alive just for perspective sakes. Every year we have a few surprise players step up. Anything can happen

There's upside there without question. I just take issue with the way people are assuming an elite reliever floor.

Which is it. Upside or mop up duty. Stop sitting on the fence and make a prospective assertion.

What the??

2 WAR is below replacement now I guess

Umm Josh Thole hasn't been above replacement level since 2011 with the Mets. You're looking at his combined career total which is buoyed by his one decent year (2010).

I thought you were talking about Dioner

I still wish we could have signed a ace aaaah shields! And run with the kids!

Stroman

Shields

Hutch

Buehrle

Norris/Shanchez

Then traded Dickey and Thole or

Used Dickey in the pen as a super relief arm maximizing fully the dickey/knuckleball effect!

As a relief arm and knuckle ball pitcher could he not pitch 2-3 innings of relief every second day almost!

Imagine how he would mess batters timing up coming in and then giving way to a smoke thrower late in the game!

With his inconsistency I bet he would put up Santos type numbers out of the pen

TIL: there's no such thing as a replacement-level pitcher with a significantly higher ceiling.

I need some real facts to back this statement up bud. Are you saying the Jays are Fap worthy?

Every year a few players under perform too.

Of course. We'd never sign Navarro for 1/5 on the open market, so why would you avoid moving him for nothing if that's all that's available?

Always need to consider the opportunity cost.

Posted
I find it hard to believe AA can't shed one year of Navarro. Sure he is a s*** framer but he isn't a terrible game caller and gives you offence from the position. He must be asking for to much. If money is that tight Beeston lied on the radio.

The trade has a buyer trading with buyer problem. If AA would except a prospect years away the deal would be done, He's looking for immediate help and teams looking to improve by adding Navarro don't want to make their bullpens worse.

Aren't the Jays due to convert a top prospect starter (who can't hack it as a starter) into a high leverage reliever? Ala Wade Davis, Cecil, Andrew Miller, etc?

I'm holding out hope that Drabek is hitting 97 MPH as a reliever....

In the meantime, AA - go get Zach McAllister and Josh Fields and call it an offseason man!!!

I don't think anyone considers that his ceiling.

Most seem to think they shouldn't waste time starting him, which would make me think they don't believe he can start. If you thought his ceiling was an ace, You wouldn't want him relieving.

Am I the only one who has RealAccountant on ignore? The guy is quoted more times than any other poster on here.

Seeking confirmation bias eh

I'm the bad guy BC I am the one speaking out against the poor handling of the bullpen and the lack of depth overall.

There are 3-4 mlb caliber relievers on this team and just 1 above average. I've seen this show before from AA. He fails to address depth and then AAAA players end up getting major playing time

Same old song. He built a great lineup but failed to address the pen. The 4-5 losses as a result of that failure will take the jays out of contention in 2015 and effectively end the AA era in Toronto

Posted

RA, I'm with you - odds are it will turn out this team is yet again not deep enough & with too many obvious holes left unaddressed.

No doubt AA is right - this is a competitive makeup - but odds are it isn't enough.
