It's possible to be balls deep in baseball "analytics" and still be a stupid person. Just look at this very message board, and how often a saber poster like BTS says something dumb cuz Fangraphs.

I'll say thats true, but even if you looked purely at Fangraphs when making those trades the Kemp and Tulo deals looked awful.

"“I’ve seen so many good baseball men who will be pushed out of the game, and never be allowed back, to make room for some of the huge analytical departments that these teams employ now,” said an American League GM. “And the question we all have: Has this made the game better? I’m not sure the answer to that is yes.”"

AA?

Have you ever watched an AA interview? There isn't a chance in hell this was AA.

Looks like an Aoki clone

Both 5'9, left handed corner outfielders.

.329/.402/.454

.323/.398/.462

This guy is two years younger than Aoki was when he came over though.

If Heyward has an opt out you probably pay him less than Gordon.

This and I think it would be pretty appealing to him as well, since his offensive WAR would likely balloon playing in the RC surrounded by this offense.

I'm not so sure tbh. I would think the Turf would be a big issue for him coming here as an OFer. In order to get him I would think the Blue Jays have to outbid everyone by a large amount.

Well, WAR is park-adjusted, but you're right in saying his raw numbers would be boosted and likely make him more appealing. Hard to see a guy who's legs are so important sign here with the turf though.

Honestly, give me Gordon for about half the price if we're going to waste resources on an outfielder.

Waste resources? Is adding a 5 WAR OF a waste of resources to you?

So Baltimore will loose Davis, Weiters, O'Day, Parra and likely Pierce. They don't have any prospects coming up and loosing their prospect pitchers to TJS. The only thing that franchise has going for them is Machado.

I love it. F Baltimore. Hope they relocate to Montreal as I can stand the Rays. They at least have a better team.

Well Donaldson got an actual boost in numbers with the switch. Maybe Heyward would think being around such good hitters he could improve as well. Maybe pay a visit to swing expert Bobby Tewksberry

You keep bringing this up, what exactly do you dislike about Heyward's swing?

When is the grass@thedome happening? I don't want them to sign Heyward to a 10 year contract and have him play on turf for 5 years.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Yeah........ I just also typed the same thing to my boss. Thank god he is also a friend or else that'd be embarrassing.

I'll start off by saying I'm not a swing expert or a scout. People in the game don't like his swing. Its very arms heavy and scouts say he'll never reach his power potential. I think I read on FG that he struggles with pitches inside and premium velocity because of it.

That being said he's obviously very successful as is but when he was coming up people thought he had the potential to be a top 10 hitter with 30 HRs.

On projection systems:

There are three points to understand:

- Projections are a single-point representation of a range of outcomes. The likelihood of those outcomes resembles a bell curve.

- A change in talent, temporary or permanent, can create arbitrage opportunities.

- Sample size affects the range of possible outcomes.

If you can internalize these three bullets, you’ll have a solid grasp on the strengths and weaknesses of projection systems. Remember, only history can possess a single truth. The present and the future can only be estimated.
