Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 I know it's a minority opinion, but I like how the Royals are built. Leveraging their giant OF by acquiring a bunch of elite OF defenders, and then leveraging them by going cheap on a rotation of flyball guys. Then you have the elite pen, and now Cueto as the head of the staff. They have an identity. Not sure if Moore planned any of this or if it just kind of fell into place though. The only thing is that much like The Jays they have 1 pitcher that can shut down a team and then some question marks from the other starters. The bullpen is not much help if you can't get the lead to them and i don't think a team that wants to go deep in the playoffs should not be built like that. I know a few people said that they could see a Jays Royals final but after price and Cueto i don't see that really happening. Just my opinion. To go deep in the Playoffs I think you need 3 solid starting pitchers and i don't see either team having that.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 The Royals are overrated IMO. I hope someone gives them a reality check in the playoffs. You haven't been listening to Rex hurler. Royals are the best team.in baseball and its not close they have the tool of timely hitting

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 The Billy Butler signing is one of the worst contracts I have seen in the history of mlb. Everyone knew it was garbage when given.out. maybe he slipped couple of mils back to beane

Everyone knew it was garbage when given.out. maybe he slipped couple of mils back to beane Billy Butler's contract is certainly not the worst in the history of Baseball. Howard, Verlander, Pujols, Cabrera, Sandoval, Ramirez are contracts off the top of my head that are worse than Billy Butler's. I think Bobby Bonilla is still getting paid by the Mets too. Add him to the list.

When the angels gave that contract Hamilton had mvp upside. It didn't work out that's why it's a terrible contract In butlers case he would have been below replacement as a best case scenario

All those contracts had a possible upside that justified the investment Billy Butler had no upside. A fat DH who has no power and a .330 obp Why? When they signed him they thought they had an above average bat whom was certainly not replacement level. Before his down year in '14 his wRC+ was at least 115 for 5 straight years and nothing was trending in the wrong direction. It was ahead scratcher, but c'mon if you're saying that a 3 year old deal for a then 28 year old deal was one of the worst in baseball then you need to change your username, cause you know nothing about value. Howard's, Pujols' deal were panned as soon as they were signed, and trending in the wrong direction. If I was forced to, I'd sooner take Butler and his contract over any of the guys I listed.

I always thought of him as a 1B but he's been showing up in RF this season. Not sure how he is defensively. Someone that big shouldn't be good.

There are over 100 MLB players taking Adderall, and not all of them are mashing 45 homers. I find this post especially annoying. A lot of players in the late 90's were taking steroids... very few of them hit 50-60+ HRs.

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I find this post especially annoying. A lot of players in the late 90's were taking steroids... very few of them hit 50-60+ HRs. Steroids aren't taken as a medical treatment for a legit disorder. ~10% of MLB players are on ADD/ADHD medication. ~5% of adults in the general population are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. It's not a stretch to say that professional athletes are a lot more likely than the general population to have a disorder correctly diagnosed. Demonizing the guy for using medication to improve his quality of life isn't really fair. Let alone the fact that we have absolutely no idea whether or not Adderall is effecting his performance.
