Smokey Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 The Marlins and Mets trades were completely opposite to AA's MO up to that point. It's certainly possible he was being directed, and that's not an uncommon opinion. The popularity of your opinion doesn't make it any more valid! At the time many Jays fans reached for an answer as to why he chose to go that way... I was actually one of them but eventually I was able to take the blinders off and look at things more objectively instead of diluting myself with baseless speculations. There's nothing to suggest that AA was pushed into making the Dickey deal. He even rationalized the deal by declaring the team ready and claiming that Dickey was the piece that will get them over the top. Besides, I wouldn't say it was a complete 180. He did make that Happ trade a few months before and although not as impactful of a move, it did show some signs of a change in direction. And let's not forget about some of the mistakes he's made since then in failing to address glaring holes. He was basically good at collecting assets when there was no pressure and has pretty much chocked since attempting to go for it. Also, stop being an ******* in responding to my posts. I'm free to act however I like as long as it's within the rules. You're the one who's resorting to name calling simply because you can't handle a dose of the truth wrap around a bit of sarcasm.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Many on this board were criticizing the trade immediately after it was announced, recognizing the poor value. I didn't particularly like the trade, but I liked what it represented - Rogers finally opening the purse strings so the team could compete. Of course my opinion was heavily influenced by two things: 1. 7 years of Ricciardi bickering: "WAAH WAHH WAHH we can't compete with the Yankees and Red Sox because of their big payrolls WAHH WAH". 2. I liked the trade because I assumed that this was the first step in Rogers going towards the $200M payroll area. The goal was an expensive, inefficient playoff team, but a playoff team nonetheless. The problem then became that the Jays appear to have some imaginary hard stop at an amount much lower than that which in retrospect makes the trade look really stupid. If we were told in December 2012 that the payroll was going to be $120M US and not a penny more, that 3% who didn't like it would likely have ballooned to 97%, myself included.

It could re-emerge at any time but right you can watch everything. They seem to still have it in the states. People complain about it a lot. I've heard the crtc required the blackout to be lifted for the mlb network to come to canada. Or something along those lines.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 What game is everyone watching tonight? I'm leaning towards Oak/KC but will probably flip between the San Fran game for fantasy reasons.
flafson Verified Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Why would the Red Sox intentionally walk some rookie called Jake Elmore? I understand that first base was open but common...
