There's no indication that we're in on Olivera whatsoever. Rumour has it there are 5 teams in at $70M+, which almost definitely rules us out entirely.

I'm pretty sure Greenwood already knows that.

Kind of a shame that we didn't pick up Cabrera. I mean $2.5 million to get a middle infielder of his quality, would have been a steal.

We really don't have anyone good at second now, and we're a black hole at short if the oft-injured Reyes goes down. Yet, Baltimore who doesn't even have room for him scoops him up.

I assume it must be because we're pretty confident on getting Olivera. There's no other logical reason.

Cabrera has legal issues and probably can't leave the US at the moment with his trial coming up in April. And there's a reasonable chance Cabrera may not last long in an O's uniform if he is convicted.

Cabrera has 1 option left. Not sure about the others.

Flaherty and Schoop have options. Flaherty, as he was a former Rule 5 picks, has options remaining, and Schoop has at least 2 remaining.

When Cabrera and Weeks settle for $2.5M contracts, it becomes pretty obvious that Toronto has all of its eggs in the Devon Travis basket.

There are no sensible reasons why anybody, no matter how stupid or misinformed, would expect anything but replacement (or sub-replacement) level play from Goins+Izturis.

All we can hope for is that Travis gets the job early on and at least approaches his projections.

400 PA Goins+Izturis could be gross.

You forgot we still have Tolleson and Kawasaki as well. And BTW, Weeks is REALLY bad defensively at 2B(a career -9.9 dWAR), and is being moved to the OF in Seattle. Goins/Izturis actually is about equal to Weeks in WAR. And Cabrera couldn't sign here due to his pending trial, which may see him get released by the O's if he is convicted.

I fully expect to see an everyday July lineup with Izturis, Kawasaki/Goins/Tolleson and Pillar when the expected Bautista/Saunders and Reyes injuries occur.

Injuries happen.. and it sucks :(

If you think we've got depth problems, look at the question marks on other AL East teams not named the Boston Red Sox.

Poor Jurickson Profar. Surgery again.

And to think 2 years ago he was the #1 prospect in baseball, and expected to be an All-Star by now. The Rangers were supposed to have a dynasty, which included Profar.. then it all crashed and burned. And thanks to the awful Fielder and Choo deals, they're screwed for the next few years..

And the talk is that Profar will miss the 2015 season as well due to this surgery. Can we declare him officially a huge prospect bust?

Do you have Blue Jays in the DR. Because everything you say is true. A Blue Jay is like a really evil crow that really likes peanut butter.

I've never seen one

There were a lot of posters around here who would have happily made that trade. Some didn't even think Bautista was enough if I recall correctly.

It's not fair to 2nd guess. It's easy to say now not to trade him cause Profar is just as useless as Dominic Brown was, another #1 bust.

Would you do Bryant for Bautista though? Cause in 2 years, we could be saying that Bryant is just as bad.

Yup, exactly. Hindsight is 20/20.

BTS had a good post the other day about how people have twisted this logic (no pun intended, TL), basically calling out everyone who would've done that trade two years ago.

I remember being on bluejaysway (a popular message board before the official forum mlb ones) and I called out so many people on foolish stuff and for being 2nd guessers. I even put it on my signature all their original quotes which embarrassed them. I got banned for that.

I thought it was a horrible idea at the time. Why trade a superstar with 4-5 years of control for a prospect who's never played game in MLB? I still wouldn't trade Bautista for Bryant. I want to see this team win.
