pat_borders Verified Member Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I've never been a fan of Kawasaki, but are we better off sticking him at 2B all year? He doesn't offer much upside, but he battles through AB's and provides average D, whereas Goins is a glove and a zero bat. Izturis probably doesn't provide any defensive or offensive value this year.

Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Travis Kawasaki Tolleson Izturis Goins I don't care what anybody says but that looks fugly!
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I don't care what anybody says but that looks fugly! Who gives a s***? It's not a rotation. They're all vying for one spot, and it's not far-fetched to think that those guys can combine to give an above-replacement level contribution overall.

Yeah I guess we will see. 9.9 chances out of 10 everybody here will be bitching about that position all year. f*** it I guess that's the fun of it.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 We'll have to wait and see, but I think Travis will be solid. I think some here would "feel" better about him if he had some PA's at AAA. I think his performance was good enough to warrant a promotion so that's fine for me. In fact, the bigger issue is whether or not he can remain healthy. I'd also be fine with him going to Buffalo for the first month and working his way up.

Who cares if everybody is bitching though? Everybody here bitches about everything. You can have one positional hole on the roster and still make the playoffs. There's almost no such thing as a perfect team.
pat_borders Verified Member Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 What? It's his job to lose in ST ATM. If that's the case it speaks louder about our current options

jays76 Verified Member Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) Its Travis job to lose in Spring. It looks like Goins would be next in line with Kawasaki and Izturus battling for extra infield spot. I assume Izturis makes the team based on his major league contract. I still can't believe AA gave him a 3 year deal. Yup. Travis would have to be lights out in ST or it will be Goins (who I support even though it's unpopular). The 2 or 3 hits he saves every game with his defense is good enough for me if it keeps the SP's PC intact, confidence up, and keeps him around an extra inning or two. That also benefits the pen. It's up to big guns to put up the runs and if he can add to that with a hit then it's just a bonus imho. I also hated the Izturis deal from day 1. Edited February 8, 2015 by jays76
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I can say with 100% certainty that Travis does not start the year on the MLB roster. I don't mean to be crass but anyone that thinks so is a clown wearing some very rose-coloured glasses. 2B is a major hole that will become a major problem for this team. Thanks Alex.

Subtract 2 from this estimate, and you're maybe correct. 0-1 per game is pushing it.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Idk about hits, but Goins saves like 0.15 runs/game at 2B right now, which will probably regress with playing time to a slightly more reasonable, less all time great like number. It's Travis' to lose though.
43211234 Verified Member Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 If Ryan Goins saved 2-3 hits a game he'd be a better player than Barry Bonds.
jays76 Verified Member Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Hey guys with the amount of gaffes that I saw in that black hole last season 2-3 hits might not even be that big of an exaggeration.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Travis Kawasaki Tolleson Izturis Goins That's pretty funny, given that Goins would out WAR all these players over the course of a full season (possibly not Travis, but he is a wild card atm).
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 That's possible, if Kawasaki and Tolleson aren't being platooned and Goins is. But a Kawa/Tolleson platoon is definitely better than Goins. Most likely given the fact that Kawasaki would only face RHP and Tolleson LHP. How much more though and is it worth the extra roster spot? I'd rather have Goins start and give the extra spot to a well rounded speedy defender who can steal you a base late in a game or score on any ball hit in the gap from first base. Tolleson or Kawasaki is dead bench weight.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Jays are going to sign Moncada
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Goins would still need Tolleson. Tolleson is out of options so maybe they do go with that pairing. It would work better than Tolleson/Izturis. Of course, Travis running away with the job would be ideal and make it easy to part ways with some guys but if that doesn't happen there are some interesting time share possibilities such as Tolleson/Goins, Tolleson/Kawasaki or maybe even the double swith hitter combination of Izturis/Santiago.
