Interesting article, but the most intriguing comment was,

In the meantime, according to Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos, Hoffman had through Sunday thrown three bullpens already (fastballs only) and was impressive.

“He should be in games in April, getting stretched out to start, and he should be activated to be with a team in early May,” Anthopoulos said. “He has looked great.”

and the first part of Rogers PR starts. Not saying the story isn't 100% true but it's just such fantastic timing. Hoffman rumoured to be asked for in the DD situation. Rogers looks bad over it. Now you pump up your prospect and everyone says, see we weren't even willing to give him up for Upton. DD stuff is no longer being discussed. I mean why not have his college coach on when they drafted him?

True or not, i like being pumped up about our prospects

I like our prospects to be playing at a level where I can watch them. If you'd like me to point out a positive about Hoffman, ECU is not a college powerhouse but the reliever from Hoffman's college team (who actually pitched more innings than anyone else on ECU in Hoffman's Junior year), Ryan Williams pitched very good in 24.2 innings in low A for the Cubs. It means not too much as they are different guys (Williams was a $1,000 Senior signee), but as I wasn't a big Hoffman guy I thought I'd be positive about how the ECU stats might convert over to the minors.

It is good timing, but to be honest, I believe it. Makes perfect sense for the Braves to have asked on Hoffman, seeing as how they got back a similar case in Max Fried (both guys got high upside arms, both guys drafted top 10, both guys recovering from Tommy John).

Sounds like your job is to critique the Jays. Going be lot more re-new talk on Hoffman after Duquette incident.

That sucks

Oh well, lame duck CEO for one more year

How much longer is Duquette under contract??

4 years? You can ask in O's forum, i'm sure they will be happy to remind you.

Crap, so it's not like we just nab him after one more year of Beeston :(

Chances are, PA will want the same return at the end of the year. Only difference i can see is, might be a good enough period of MLB to mediate and get him for a reasonable figure.

What i am counting on, they gonna get a real process to find someone else and they aren't going to corner themselves into just one option.

Blue Jays ownership has a full year to execute a proper search process though... and now they won't have to go behind Beeston's back. The extra year is good news.

Silver lining

Good point

I think this may come up again at end of season. Find it hard to believe O's would block his advancement like that

Why there's plenty of qualified people to take Beeston's role, all over the MLB. Rogers just needs to let baseball ops to deal with it. Ed Rogers and Roger Rai, were obvious f***tards that made the organization look like bumbling idiots. End of story.

I get the sense they wanted somebody to either aid Anthopoulos, or take his place as GM. As Beeston is financial guy, while they aimed for baseball guys as his successor.

Do you understand what a CEO/President of Baseball Ops does? Or have you been fooled by the Oriole fans?

Well, CEO and Pres. he runs the team. Why Rogers go for baseball guy instead of financial guy, with Anthopoulos in place, signal that Rogers are angling towards post-Anthopoulos regime?
