Jonzo Verified Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Hi all, thinking about ditching my expensive cable bill every month. The only reason I have cable is for baseball anyways. So this leads me to a question on MLB TV: a friend of mine is thinking of doing the same thing, are we able to share the account and watch Jays games at the same times in different locations? Also, how will the blackout rules affect me (living in Toronto)? Do any of you have MLB TV, if so, how would you rate the experience? Thanks..

Ive heard rumors about them ditching the black out thing. Or at least making it less restrictive. My brother bought me mlb.tv even though i have the super sports pack so curious about pplz opinion as i might ditch too as i only watch sports but get like 900 channels.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I've had MLB.TV for the past two years and haven't dealt with any blackout issues despite being located in Southern Ontario. Would recommend it 100%! Not only will you not need cable, it provides a maximal amount of selection (every game) and convenience (any device).

On my supers sports pack i would record the game just in case i got stuck in traffic and then just fast forward through commercials until it was live. Can i do the same?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Wouldn't a VPN completely destroy the blackout?

If you download the NextDef plug-in, you can pause live games. They also don't show the scores in the Media Centre, so you can watch games after they finish without worrying about spoilers. Wouldn't a VPN completely destroy the blackout? It would, but you don't even need one lol
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 They also don't show the scores in the Media Centre, so you can watch games after they finish without worrying about spoilers. This. It's pretty much worth buying for this feature alone
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 It would, but you don't even need one lol Ya but in case it ever actually starts blacking people out a VPN would be useful, and most people already run one anyways
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 You can watch and pause any game at any time (provided it has started). I can watch games from 2012 if I want. So i wouldn't be able to start a game from the beginning if i got home at like 7.40 and the Jays or whoever has already started?
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 So i wouldn't be able to start a game from the beginning if i got home at like 7.40 and the Jays or whoever has already started? You'd be able to do that. Although when you open the game it starts in the present, so you'd have to shield your screen while you rewind.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 This. It's pretty much worth buying for this feature alone I feel like it's worth buying for the sole fact that I don't have to listen to Buck and Pat.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I'm in Toronto, and I got hit with the blackout. I got a proxy, and it was alright for watching on my computer, but when I put it on my TV it was super slow and glitchy. Would not recommend it.

I would want to watch the games on my big smart HD TV. That sucks.

You could just run an HDMI from your computer to the TV and it would be fine

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 You could just run an HDMI from your computer to the TV and it would be fine This is what I do, not a problem at all.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Are HDMI outs common on computers? Yes, most laptops too.
wamco Verified Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 if you ask them if you can be logged in on 2 different home devices and watch at the same time , they'll say no. (I called and talked to 3 different people because I wanted to share the account with a friend who didn't live with me in actuality) But that is not accurate, as pointed out above. Accounts can be shared.

Nice picture quality and most of the time the stream stays pretty consistent.
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Do any of you guys watch the Jays games primarily on a tablet (ipad) in Toronto and are there any additional issues I should consider there?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Yes, most laptops too. Looking at my ports now and one of them does look like that. I had no idea. I thought I had to out through VGA. Edit: It literally says HDMI next to it. s***, I had no idea that was even a thing much less that I had it.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted January 4, 2015 Author Posted January 4, 2015 Help me understand the blackout.. Ok I get that they're not enforcing it, but if they were, would this mean I wouldn't be able to stream Jays games in Toronto?

Hola Better Internet and Unblock-us are options, you can also fiddle around on your PS3/XBOX settings to do the same if you want those devices to be 'american'

"Ya'll be crazy, anit no HDMI port on this thing, this aint no TV... *looks at computer* HDMI ... well s***". Also with all of this talk about VPNs, I am going to throw my favorite into contention: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/. So easy to use, doesn't effect my speeds what so ever and you can choose where you want to connect with a click. Not sure why someone whom has netflix may want to want to see UK netflix or anything but the option is there.

That's what I tried to go. Bought mlbtv and used it through my PS3, but half the time it gives me an error, and the other half the time it just lags a lot.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 You can also connect computer to TV via VGA, you just need to connect the audio as well or you'll be listening to through the computer speakers. Back in the day this is how we had to do it...
