jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Same here (17 years ago to be exact) loved that stadium and city, so much less busy than LA. Only issue I had was staying in Palm Springs for that 3 week trip it we had two highway issues with border patrol stopping every car on a highway. One was a 3 hour delay. LA is quite overrated. The two times I've been were meh. My travels are taking me to San Diego mainly, so I figure why not hit up Dodgers Stadium and Angels Stadium since they are about an hour and a half away. Could either drive or take an Amtrak. Otherwise, I have no desire to go back to LA lol.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I envy you guys. Living in Calgary. The closest MLB action is 12 hours away in Seattle. You don't need to waste 200-250 on a Manhattan hotel, Check out airbnb and you can get a condo for less thats better. PM me if you want a discount link. Agreed. Airbnb is a great site and sometimes you can get great bang for your buck. I prefer Airbnb for places in Europe or for international travel. Never have used them for places in the States. I looked into Airbnb when I went to Boston and it was quite expensive to stay in an apartment within the city that weekend.

It's either pay a fortune or stay way the f*** out of town.

Hotels were crazy expensive when I went. I managed to get something decent in the city, though overall its way overpriced. Staying along the wharf was like upwards of $300/per night which is absurd.
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 OP - I'm planning on going to the opener. I'm flying from Chicago (where i live) on the Saturday and leaving on the Tuesday. Not sure about tickets yet...I don't want to pay a crazy amount, but I am planning on "camping out" online the minute that single-game tickets go on sale, and trying to get them for face value that way. I've done that in the past for Cubs opening day tickets (even when they were good a few years back) and after hitting refresh 19312324 times, I was always successful. As for hotels, I went to a Jays Yankees series in 2013 and stayed at Hilton Midtown, at 53rd and 6th. The NFL draft and a couple other things were going on in the city that weekend, so that hotel was expensive at about $259/night, but if you want to stay outside of midtown, or cheaper yet, outside of manhattan, you can get something more affordable.

TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I'll bump this, as opening day is 1 week away. Anyone planning on going to NYC? I just got my Tix today.

TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Awesome! How much did you have to pay to land a pair of seats for the opener? Was looking to pay $100/each, but ended up seeing Jim Beam Suites seats for $125/each on stubhub, so I bit on those. If it ends up being cold/rainy, i'll have access to the to the Jim Beam suite so an go in and watch from there. New Yankee stadium is my favorite stadium, so looking forward to it.

I went to the Yankees series in June last year and got Jim Beam suite tickets from a scalper for 35 each. Great seats. Right behind home plate and not too high up. Food inside the Jim Beam bar is really good too compared to the rest of the concessions.
