TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Really like this as a depth option. Has a 4.8 WAR season in his past, still only 29 years old. Between Barton, Colabello and Smoak, I think you could do worse than throwing a bunch of low-risk, low-cost, high-potential guys at the wall and hoping something sticks.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 World Series here we come!
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Author Posted December 16, 2014 Daric Barton's reverse splits (career; 577 PAs against L) http://i.gyazo.com/943deb2e0aede7b63f8f1d3082eba04e.png Also, irrelevant trivia!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 The gap in his splits isn't nearly as large as it seems. BABIP is the main reason its so much higher. Small sample too.
Brenner Verified Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 meh these guys are a dime a dozen at 1B. Neither something to complain about nor get excited about.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Protypical A's player back in his prime. Reminds me of Jack Cust-lite
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Nothing ever wrong with minor league deals, me likey!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Reminds me a lot of Dan Johnson of last year.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Author Posted December 16, 2014 Reminds me a lot of Dan Johnson of last year. Except that Barton's been a lot better than Johnson throughout his career, both over time and at his peak. He's also 6 years younger, and he's had more good stints at the majors than bad ones (provided positive value in 6 of the 8 seasons he's appeared in the majors, compared to Johnson's 3 out of 9).
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 lol weird... He'll be battlng CCC!
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I like it. AA loves first round picks.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I like Barton GG caliber 1B + plate discipline

I agree. Just saying in terms of white LHH 1B to minor league deal. Good depth signing but you hope he doesn't have to end up starting games for the MLB team.
