Would you do it?

Considering what's left out there I'd consider it. Even if he ends up in the pen he could earn that contract.

Would I do it? Sure. Is there a budget for it? Probably not. Truthfully he is something that a team with luxury (or love of risk) should be in. The Jays fit neither of this and best to cut ties and ideally invest the money into players that can stay in the lineup.

nope 6 mill with a lot of incentives, 1.5 for 180 innings, 1 mill for all star appearance, 1 mill for top 10 cy young vote and 500000 for 32 starts made.

Equals up to 10 million total if he gets all those

This is kind of a silly question. It depends on so many other factors (budget, what else is available etc...) .

Obviously it predicated on having the budget to sign him

Only him, or is there still $8-10 million left after?

This is way too loaded, he hasn't reached 180 IP in his career so I doubt he would agree to that incentive, likewise for 32 starts.

Yeah I think the incentives would be more like 150 innings pitched, 26 games started.

He's going sowhere to start, SD, seems sane.

What exactly has he done to deserve that kind of money in the first place. Fast answer. No. I would consider him as a reliever at 2.5-3.5M with incentives.

Yeah, like he isn't looking for a Ptchers Park?

well considering gregerson got 18.5 mil for 3 years and he`s posted a sub 3 ERA for his 6 year career as a reliever, Morrow definitely is not going to get 8 mil to pitch out of the pen. Morrow might land a 1 year 4 or 5 mil deal if someone views him as a starter. In a pen I agree he`s in the 2.5 to 3.5 mil range.

I would think he would be pretty good in the bullpen and i think thats what we would have to offer him... However i think you will see him go to an organization that will give him a chance to start. Although i would sign him to a 1 year deal if he was good with being a reliever.

I would be interested in seeing what he could do with Martin catching him. If he flops we have the SP depth and can always throw him in the bullpen. As mentioned it depends on the budget but the upside is there and you can't really go that wrong on a 1 year commitment. Worst case scenario he blows his arm out in April and we eat the 8 million.

i don't think he will get 8 mill i think realistically we will be looking at 5M annually

Move Navarro for a RP, sign Morrow for 1 yr and Tortilla for 3, fill remaining holes with internal options could be done

Morrow however is not durable enough for starting duty. I hate how he taxes the pen. MLB teams know this I'd be very surprised if he gets 8M or more..... $4-5M is more likely

Yeah. 5-7 million with incentives pushing it up to 10 million would be my guess. I know AA doesn't do incentives so a 1 year 8 million contract seems about right market value. He probably signs with SD, but they might be a little gun shy after the JJ thing.

I'd love him back as a reliever. I think he'd dominate in the pen if he wanted to pitch there.

Unfortunately he doesn't want to be in the pen and there are lots of teams who will give him a chance to be their 5th starter. I just can't see him returning.

It makes all the sense in the world for him to sign with a team that plays in a pitcher-friendly park or in the NL.

In general, I really doubt the Jays can be big players in the FA market for pitchers, but I've been wrong before.

Angels seem like a good fit for Morrow. Competitive team in a pitcher's park and if he doesn't work out or someone else goes down they've got Heaney lying in wait.

Bullpen

So you think its a good idea that this team should commit close to ten billion for a bullpen pitcher, who hasn't successfully pitched in the bullpen as a trial, knowing that even if he is successful he wont be here after 2015, while at the same time has lots of injury concerns.

Given the stage where this team is, we need strong sure fire bullpen options. I'd take Jason Frasor over Brandon Morrow.
