So you think its a good idea that this team should commit close to ten billion for a bullpen pitcher, who hasn't successfully pitched in the bullpen as a trial, knowing that even if he is successful he wont be here after 2015, while at the same time has lots of injury concerns.

Given the stage where this team is, we need strong sure fire bullpen options. I'd take Jason Frasor over Brandon Morrow.

i strongly doubt Morrow gets ten million

Would you do it?

Considering what's left out there I'd consider it. Even if he ends up in the pen he could earn that contract.

Morrow isn't worth nearly that much. I'd put his value at 3 million.

I'd rather bring Janssen back. He was really bad in the last half of last year, but if the food poisoning issue is legit, and he could return to 2013 form, there's a real bargain to be had.

I'd also like to bring in Aoki. A consistent .350 OBP guy at the top of the order would be great in front of Bautista and Encarnacion.

Really agree with this. Both actually very much so.

Jansenn was a good closer before that vacation trip. Zero problems with bringing him back to close.

you don't have food poisoning affect you for an entire second half. He's old

Fair point. But still think he's worth a 3 million gamble. Not sure if can close, but could still be a valuable bullpen piece.

If he did know about the food poisoning, I'm not sure why he pouted, when Gibby put Sanchez into close, instead of him.

I think the idea is that he didn't put all the weight he lost back on. That being said he was losing velocity before it happened so I'm not convinced that it entirely works as an explanation for why he sucks, more of a convenient excuse for the optimists.

You'd still want Aoki with Saunders here?

It's even less likely that he gets ten billion...

Depends how many vesting options Amaro Jr includes, I guess.

I wish we could sign him for 5 mil and promise him a chance to start, then 2 weeks into spring when his vagina starts to hurt convince him for his career it would be better to stay in the bullpen as a closer.

I think Morrow's a reasonable risk at 4m. Worst case his arm falls off in spring training and you're out 4m vs best case you get a 4-5 fWAR starter for 4m.

The problem with that is that he can probably get that much from a team with a pitcher friendly ballpark.

is your best case based upon some sort of a fantasy land.

I often wonder if people here have actually seen Morrow pitch. I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't since he pitches so rarely.

padres look like they are going to double down and gamble again this year. They got burned last year with Johnson, and now look to have an offer out on Morrow. I really think Morrow could be a great bullpen arm if he would just make the transition.
