#RedSox have agreement in principle for #DBacks’ Miley, sources tell me and @jonmorosi. AZ will get Webster, De La Rosa and a minor leaguer.

Cherington should be fired if this deal goes through. Webster and De La Rosa should be kept, even if they end up in the bullpen, especially considering the lack of depth in the Red Sox bullpen and questions with their other pitching prospects in AAA. Plus, Miley, despite his durability, is no more than a #4-#5 starter at best in the AL, and isn't getting Boston anywhere.

Realistically he is probably a mid rotation starter who will eat 200IP, its a good acquisition for the Red Sox but they need to add more depth to a horrible rotation.

the trade was fine, but the poster who you traded away for future considerations has a point. The Red sox depth is terrible in the rotation. I know it's still early, and obviously they are going to make some more moves, but as it stands the rotation is:

Likely at the cost of their farm system. You'd think with a deep farm like that, they would've done better than Miley, who'll get killed in the AL East, especially in a league with the DH. And he gets killed in hitter's parks, such as Philadelphia (6.55 ERA), Miller Park (8.38), Chicago NL (7.50 ERA), and Colorado (4.76 ERA). And considering his trends in BBs and H/9IP, he'll be likely putting up mid to high 4s in ERA in the AL, especially playing games at Fenway, Rogers Centre, Camden Yards and Yankee Stadium.

the sox just have too many things going for them imo.

 

they have good trade chips in the form of their surplus in OF, excellent prospects, money, and to top it all off the market this year is fairly pitching rich. all i'm saying is they'll figure things out.
