TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Comment from an O's board poster: "Also if the Orioles eventually decide to let DD go it should be after the Blue Jays fill their CEO/GM position. Bad behavior from the Blue Jays and DD should not be rewarded. You can make DD a powerless figurehead if you want." Saltines as f*** http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-laughing002.gif

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 The best and funniest part in all of this is that this is almost an exact representation of how Jays fans behaved in the Farrell situation, with the only major difference of course being that Jays fans hated Farrell and wanted him gone, while O's fans are in a clingy abusive relationship with Duquette and will dig their nails through all layers of his flesh before they let him go.

I remember most posters here realizing that Farrell wouldn't return much of anything.

Who was clamouring for Bogaerts or Betts?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I remember most posters here realizing that Farrell wouldn't return much of anything. Yeah, kinda not exactly the same at all.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I think at the time we all realized at the time managers were a dime a dozen and didn't really make a difference. Also Farrell's in game management was bad.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I remember most posters here realizing that Farrell wouldn't return much of anything. I didn't say posters here, I said Jays fans in general. There was a very widely accepted sentiment that the Jays should cling on to Farrell until Boston hires a manager, and then fire him and leave him out of a job. Outside of our little world here, there's a very large portion of this fanbase that are just as much the dumb mongrels that O's Hangout is -- just look at any comments section on Sportsnet, TSN, Twitter or wherever else. I literally saw Pedroia mentioned as compensation by multiple internet commenters, and there were probably as many Jays fans that thought we were getting Buchholz as there are O's fans that think they'll be getting Pompey. We're fortunate that we have a site like this to post on, I'd be miserable if I was an O's fan and the most active outlet to discuss the team was that board.

The comments sections of MSM sites is cringeworthy. But it goes back to the MSM feeding all this garbage to the fanbase in the first place. If the Newspapers and TV programs actually spoke about baseball in a smart manner the fanbase wouldn't be nearly as dumb. Instead people listen to Buck and Pat talk about pitcher wins and RBI's and its no wonder people who are just getting into the game don't know s***. If there was an eqivalent of Fangraphs with a TV show kinda like the Grantland basketball hour for NBA, baseball fans wouldn't be nearly as stupid.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 True. It's hard to blame casual fans when the baseball media they consume reads like this: "Both Buchholz and pitcher Daniel Bard have been floated in media reports as a fair exchange for the Toronto manager. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/baseball/blue-jays-remain-quiet-on-farrell-front/article4600081/ Just irresponsible and incompetent reporting. No mention at all of the fact that a manager has never returned compensation like that.

Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Here's an interesting article from the Baltimore perspective via Birdswatcher on Fansided- http://birdswatcher.com/2015/01/17/baltimore-orioles-let-dan-duquette-go-toronto/ And by interesting, you mean a well spoken O's Hangout member. The article's only gripe with the Jays is timing, but they still think the Orioles should stand in Toronto's way UNLESS they offer an unreasonable compensation. Same BS, just conveyed in a less insane manner.
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 From the above Baltimore Sports Report article: "With four years remaining on his contract and the opportunity to leave for a division competitor, you could expect that the O’s would get a lot in compensation. One name that can be thrown around is Jeff Hoffman, the Blue Jays 2014 first round draft pick who has recently had Tommy John Surgery, which I would be okay with." http://baltimoresportsreport.com/peter-angelos-handle-dan-duquette-situation-56713.html It appears all media need to get a f***ing clue when it comes to this sort of thing. That being said, there is a discernible difference between this situation and the Farrell one. The Farrell one was NOT a promotion and required compensation given it was a lateral move. Thus, why some of the expected 'gets' for comp were a little outrageous (Ok, a lot outrageous). The only leverage the O's have for comp. in the DD scenario is the fact we are in the same division and that he has 4 years left on his contract.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I'm hoping this goes through. DD is a big believer in a strong bullpen
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Lol Orioles fans wanting Jose Bautista so pathetic. You know what don't hire him and let them deal with the fact that their gm does not want to be there
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 This isn't even worth the drama, lol.

The thing with that board it is full of old timers. 60+ they're set in their ways if your not the biggest homer or pay those idiots 40 a year you get banned. Just go to Facebook and search Orioles hangout lot's of pictures of the members and mods. It's worth the laugh.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Jeff Hoffman for Dan Duquette is so dumb and lack of sense for us. I like Duquette, but he was out of baseball for almost 9 years, and that should mean something
jays76 Verified Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 What a hot mess, this needs to end soon.
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I can't wait for this to end just to see how crazy the Baltimore media and fan base will get when they are let down from their lofty expectations of receiving half a major league team + all assets from the farm of their choosing for an asset that doesn't play the game.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Exactly. http://i.gyazo.com/dcc21f381c6e0e42d630ad40216d3fe3.png That's straight up unprofessional. Olney knows what standard compensation is in these situations.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Urena I can understand, I guess. Kid has some potential, could be a nice contributor, but isn't over the top amazing. Since Duquette does have 4 years left, I'd say that fair, with maybe a filler type thrown in too. Weird seeing him grouped with so many better prospects though.
Orioles Verified Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 That's straight up unprofessional. Olney knows what standard compensation is in these situations. First off this isn't like those. Stop acting like it is.
