Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 After Thomas de Wolf signed with the New York Mets in 2008 to become the first player born and raised in Belgium in the Minor Leagues, Belgian Baseball has a second prospect. 18-year-old outfielder Sam Buelens, who becomes 19 on December 27, signed with the Toronto Blue Jays. In 2014 Buelens played for the Borgerhout Squirrels and won the championship in the Belgian Division I. He appeared in 34 games and batted .348 (OBP .448/SLG .430) with six extra base hits, 50 runs, 23 RBI and 31 stolen bases (in as many attempts). He also was on the roster for the Belgian National Team for the European Championship in Regensburg and the Czech Republic, but received only a single at-bat in the process. http://www.mister-baseball.com/belgian-outfielder-sam-buelens-signs-toronto-blue-jays/
