ineedsheet Verified Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 if the jays hold true to their 2018 grass promise, are there any other changes you hope they make to the dome? personally i would look into moving back the fences. I'd love it if Toronto could play as a neutral stadium--i do think our club in general has a tough time attracting low-risk high reward guys looking to rebuild value (masterson, beachy, etc.) as rogers plays as a hitters park. too many HRs.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Move the fences back, less seats, less money, and less hitters want to come to Toronto.
ineedsheet Verified Member Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 you could move the fences back (or up in certain parts) without getting rid of any seats. There is a sizeable gap between the seats and the wall
ineedsheet Verified Member Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 we get more cost effective hitters, but lose out on cost effective pitchers.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I think you want to keep it as a hitters park. Once grass is installed, hitters will want to come here and the Jays under this front office seem to be really good at drafting pitchers.

labadee Verified Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I'm honestly surprised that more hasn't been done in preparation for the Pan Am games next year. I know nobody cares about it, but Toronto threw a lot of money to host it. I'm very interested to see how that 250 million dollars in renovation that Beeston mentioned back in 2013 (over the next 10 years) will be used.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Retractable fences. Go with the theme of the building. 10' closer when then Jays bat, 10' farther when the other team is up. Hey, ballparks get to be "unique", and they allowed that abortion that is NewYankeeStadium to be built in blatant violation of the rules, so why shouldn't we have a 'unique' ballpark?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I wouldn't move the fences back. Hitters want to come instead of pitcher, works both ways. Main reason is that fans love the long ball. I would think it would decrease ticket sales but a not insignificant amount. Key is to build a stacked lineup with well we already done that with 3 of the best power hitters in baseball. Bautista, Encarnacion, and Donaldson. And get pitchers who strike guys out or keep the ball out of the air. Stroman, Sanchez, and Norris all fit that mold. You can pitch in Rogers Centre. You just need the right pitchers. add Kendall Graveman.............................oh wait, he's gone!!
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I'd want them to change the way seating works. Along the baselines the seating faces the outfield rather than homeplate. It makes you strain your neck if you want to watch the action. Furthermore I wouldn't mind it if the Jays closed off the 500 level just like how Oakland does it. But instead of doing the whole 500 level, just keep the 500 level seats open that are around home plate.

But why restrict the amount of available seats for every single home game that project to sell high?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I wouldn't mind seeing them move the fences back just a little, but put a 7 ft wall out there. it would make for a lot of spectacular over the wall catches. I love the fences at camden yard. always cool to see a fielder take one away.

Amazing catch that not many guys can make. It's one of the top plays in baseball.
