Miguel Castro might factor this year. Hes 19 and hasn't had a full season in full season ball. I guess they are gonna move him fast interesting.

AA said his fastball is 100mph.

shouldn't they be focussed on Castro as a starter first? sounds like they've decided castro is a closer

How do you figure this?

What kind of damage would it do long term to have a guy out of the pen for the whole year instead of maturing as a SP in aaa? I understand bringing guys like that up in August or September to watch innings. Maybe it's very minimal, but it seems long term they would be better off getting the innings.

Repetition is repetition regardless of where it is. The question is will they get enough innings in the pen vs. what they could get in the minors.

Is Neftali Feliz a simialr comparable??

He was a starter in the minors. The first year he got called up to the big leagues he was dominant as strictly a reliever. They moved him into the Closer role for the following two seasons where he had some fairly good success.

Going into his fourth season they moved him back into the starting rotation. He was looking really good to start the year but he got hurt. He then pretty much missed the rest of that season and most of the next season before finally coming back as reliever last year.

I'd rather Sanchez be starting in AAA but after the performance he had last year out of the pen AA is probably having wet dreams about having him back there again this year.

I believe it. I just didn't expect to hear his name in the bullpen conversation.

AA is using the Adam wainwright approach to the bullpen. All top young starting prospects will be considered for the bullpen this year...Castro, Osuna, Norris, Sanchez....to compliment Loup, Redmond, Cecil, Estrada and Delabar.

This team needs Sanchez to be that superstar eight inning reliever this year

I mean non-tender candidates from other teams lol.

Everth Cabrera could be interesting as a plug at 2B until Travis comes up honestly. More upside than, say, Izturis, and can handle SS if Reyes dies.

I dont understand why you wouldn't start Sanchez to begin the year. And if come August the team is in short on good pitchers in the bullpen, move him to the pen.

Not vice versa.

Not necessarily. Throwing simulated games or extra bull pens isn't the same as the real game innings they could be getting. Just seems like valuable development time they're missing.

Would definitely like that but for this to happen Happ needs to go.

Yup seems like the same type scenario we might see with Sanchez.

I don't see why everyone is so quick to dismiss Happ. He's a serviceable #5. Depth took a little hit with the Donaldson trade.

What happens if Sanchez blows up?

I wonder if that is telling as to who they may be looking to acquire after he said he was looking to acquire players we may not have heard of

I think he's just holding his ground on a previous offer to Melky that was much lower than Cruz's 4/$58.

I expect AA to not tender Smoak and Estrada and save eight million

Yeah, then spend that money in s*** RP's?

Smoak and Estrada have some value. Estrada 5th SP or long RP (ALA Carlitos Villanueva) and Smoak could have a breakout year

Estrada does have some value, but not $4.5+ million of value. I was thinking he'd get non-tendered, but with the Jays having done nothing on the RP front, and the fact that AA mentioned him a couple times today, makes me believe he will be on the roster. I think he could be cut in the spring and we'd only be on the hook for 1/6th of his deal??

Really don't mind giving Smoak a chance in the RC. Getting him out of SEA could do wonders for him.

Not quite yet since Sanchez was gonna be shut down anyway last season. I think this is the plan for Castro as well. He'll start in Dunedin or NH and if he's doing well, they'll call him up to finish the year in the MLB bullpen.

I do agree with everyone that Sanchez should be a starter in Buffalo to start next year and should only be used out of the BP towards the end of the year.

We'll see what happens.
