one of these players has a few less games under his belt to accumulate WAR. You could use the same reasoning to say we wouldn't want Gregory Polanco over any of those three.

 

What this shows is that 3 of them have proven MLB success, one of them does not. We already have a wild card in CF and replacing Melky's LF production with Pillar is not equal.

I just think its lazy quoting Steamers like its gospel. If you are using it to say that player A is worth .2WAR more than player B next year, I don't think you are using it right.

 

I also think its lazy using MLBTR's expected contract when it seems that is unlikely at this point.

 

Fair. But i think his point behind the post was correct. Melky and Nick are over valued because of their bat. We can add a similar player in overall value at a fraction of the cost.

aoki is for sure the best option, we have so much power 3-6 that if he is 2 behind reyes it plays well as he doesn't k much and puts the ball in play, can steal a bag and a good OBP in front of sluggers

 

he is also the cheapest, least commitment and most consistent of all options

 

resign kawasaki to backup instead of goins, not as great defence but makes pitchers earn the out

sign ichiro to play cf for a month or two, give pompey time in AAA although him and travis may not need it. best case we got kenny lofton and altuve 2.0

Agree completely it is quite annoying. Project Pillar at whatever you want, but he's more likely to be completely useless than the others mentioned. Relying on him to platoon with a guy coming off of back surgery is stupid. LF is a much bigger need than 2B. You can live with all defence/no bat at one of the middle infield positions but it creates a big hole wasting a corner outfield spot on weak hitters.
