Yeah so this guy isn't an A+ prospect but we weren't getting that for Gose anyways. When was the last time AA traded for someone who was legitimately on the upswing career wise? That alone is reason for celebration.

Kratzy! i kid a bit. Love this trade though, at worst it's depth at a position of need and the future at 2nd base isn't so cloudy.

The Tigers and Dombrowski played Devon Travis in the CF at the end of last season in the minors. Tigers saw Travis as depth in the CF apparently (Kinsler blocked Travis), but that spot was updated with Gose in the scene.

Good trade for both parts; toolsy and useful CF for 2-2.5 Wins 2B in the near future.

I repeat, Travis isn't Howie Kendrick, but he's an upgrade over Gose in our team (Need, Wins, Roster structuring).

AA manages to pull out a decent prospect for a guy who's bat seemed like it wouldn't come around, was out of options (therefore likely going to be lost anyway if he went on waivers if his bat struggled too much this year) for a guy who will have 3 years of options, could wind up being the everyday 2B I'd say by midseason (conservative estimate depending on his spring) and at worse could be an average player at a position we sorely needed something for. Not a bad trade at all. I like Gose but there were times where he was a blackhole offensively.

I still think AA will bring someone in for the OF whether it's Melky or someone else who has every day experience to help out offensively and take some pressure off Pompey. I have the feeling if they really wanted him as the every day CF right off the bat he would have played more in September. He could win the job in ST but it's early, AA might pull another move out of thin air that sures up the OF a bit more.

Blue Jays give up a player who might get a better shot in a different organization especially with some "better" ranked players knocking on the door and the Jays wanting/needing offense, Jays get a potential solution to 2B for the foreseeable future if he turns out to be even an average player. We still have Izturis to start the season if need be until he's ready unless AA does another deal. Unless he's Rule 5 Eligible it keeps a roster spot open too.

Jays got their potential long term solution at 2B by using spare parts, who's out of options, who was frustrating to watch at times at the plate. Time will tell but not a bad move so far. Also depends on who AA brings in for the OF. I can't see him completely ignoring the loss of Melky, Gump and hoping Pompey and a platoon in LF will work out. Then again I've been wrong before.

And Ray Ferraro with the best take on the trade so far.

AA slowly turning into Harold Reynolds

He was the Tigers #1 or 2 best prospect but only our 9th? For real?? Is their system that bad??

Either the Tiger's system was horrible, ours that much better, or the system of ranking is just....some kind of strange.

The Tigers have a decent farm (Ziomek, Ray, Hill, Crawford, Leyba, Moya, Kubitza), but the Jays have a great farm (Top-10 for sure)

I believe this will free up a 40 man roster spot assuming he doesn't make the team. He doesn't need to be added until next year.

Can at least protect 1 person from rule 5 draft for now.

I believe he's ranked 6th by his position overall.

#4 according to Baseball America (behind Wong, Odor, Betts)

#84

Devon Travis 2b 3ds_tigers79 23 2015

Travis’ 2013 season caught everyone by surprise but him. Posting similar numbers at a more advanced level will position him as Ian Kinsler’s eventual replacement in Detroit.

Other opportunity/chance to Pillar; I hope he don't miss out this time. BTW Pillar and Travis are the same type of players.

Hmmm...Wong/Odor and Betts no longer qualify as prospects...;)

I suppose, they all played a fair bit this year. That list was pre-2014 season.

I was about to post this list from Mayo, seems to be the most up to date

And yes it is a weak position

I hope Gose doesn't take over as CF for Detroit and becomes something special

He will help their defense tremendously

But I can't wait to watch Buerhle, Loup and Cecil carve him up at the plate

I think most people are willing to take that risk. He struck out way too much for someone with 0 power. I think DET knows what they got, a good defender, good glove, good speed, below average hitter. A poor man's endy chavez lol

One thing that Devon Travis has going for him is that he was a late round gamble pick of the Lyon Tamers. He sees him as the 2nd baseman of the future and he usually has a good eye for good fantasy prospects........ So there is that....

P.S any one looking to buy high on a stud 2nd baseman prospect???
