Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 And I might add , A top ten farm system that if they dealt the high value non core talent would jump even higher. This is why I never understood all the doom and gloom guys. Sure we lost a lot of talent a couple winters ago, but the farm has been rising again and we have no huge payroll commitments other than Reyes.

I was like that when Riccardi was GM until he changed his drafting strategy. Sure i post negative s*** but I mostly try to look at the good AA has done . He has drafted more and better talent than most organizations and hell he has traded more talent than the Yankees have drafted in the last few years IMO. This farm has some high upside talent in spite of us not drafting higher than 10th. The Rays farm system isn't very good but God the Love for them on this board is disgusting.

Sure we lost a lot of talent a couple winters ago, but the farm has been rising again and we have no huge payroll commitments other than Reyes. The "doom and gloom" is brought on by bad trades, constant lying, and inaction on the part of the front office, as well as a total lack of accountability anywhere in the organization. Oh, and 21 years and counting of no playoffs. It's cool and all that the farm system is recovering nicely from those trades and that we have flexibility in the future, but can anyone really trust Rogers, Beeston and AA not to screw this up? I'd be a lot more optimistic with better ownership and competent people in charge.

He is in a spot right now where this team is on the verge of being a contender for 2015 and shedding a ton of payroll after that. I think he learned a harsh lesson from those blockbuster trades and is trending back towards value contious moves. I want to see how this winter plays out, but I don't think he is anywhere near done just yet.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 the Miami and Mets deals have soured me and AA has basically had his head up his ass since then? he really hasn't done anything since... gave away a catcher and signed one that is worse for a 2 year deal.... This has to be the last year for AA and Beeston. if the jays blow junks again this year there wont be much that would save their jobs. there.... a positive? lol You seem to be the one with your head stuck up your ass. Sure those deals weren't great but the future of this team looks pretty good. AA has done an amazing job with the Jays farm. That hasn't translated to the MLB roster yet, but he's not nearly as bad as some here make him out to be. If the Jays do fire AA I'd expect him to be some other teams GM oin short order. The negativity on this board is unbearable at times.

The only thing the Jays don't have is the resources. They have an old core, and not as much money as the Yanks. Red sox want to rebuild quick and are going to add a front end starter. While the Jays are 'supposedly' close to contending, they are also fighting against several other close teams who will likely outspend and have a younger core who can progress. Buerhle/JB/Reyes, those guys are not getting younger or better at this point. Other teams are willing to spend big on IFAs, the Jays don't seem set on that route, and will likely miss the boat again (no pun intended for any of the cubans reading this).

I like the waiver claims of Smoak and Dirks because they cost little to DFA them if they don't win a spot. 1/6 th of a few million about 500 k . I see the Lind deal as a cost cutting move but also to open up the DH spot for resting people thru that spot unless Smoak takes the 1st base job. Defense needs and should be better even with navy behind the dish . i also see this team being as good or better in 2016. The only real potential loss is Buehrle and we will have some starters ready to jump in . If he has money he will improve the positions of need , If not well the moves he already made will be even more important.

FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 He is in a spot right now where this team is on the verge of being a contender for 2015 This team has been "on the verge" for the better part of the last 21 years only to continue to spin its wheels in mediocrity. At some point, we need to see results before giving the people in charge the benefit of the doubt. AA has done an amazing job with the Jays farm. You mean like when he gutted it in order to bring in a bunch of overrated, overpaid veterans and still miss the playoffs? And people really trust him not to panic and do that again? Again, it's great and all that we have a good farm system again and money coming off the books. But when the franchise is still saddled with tightwad ownership, a dumbass team president, and a mediocre-at-best general manager, why exactly should we have blind faith that it's actually going to work out for us? If we had Theo in the front office and the Dodgers' ownership, then yeah, I'd understand the blind optimism.... but not with the current head honchos and their track record.
