Rule 5 draft first time eligible players.

Full source linked here (from last year):

This list does not include people eligible from previous years and some of the players may no longer be with the team.

Rule 5 draft coming up next month. I believe teams have until November 20th to protect players by adding them to the 40 man roster. Toronto doesn't have any open roster spots at the moment to protect anyone.

Will they drop anyone? If so, who?

Will they add anyone to the 40 man?

Yeah I wonder if any will be protected. The 40 man is full at the moment.

Also slight chance of Schimpf or Ybarra from previous eligibility years

potential targets.

Delino Deshields Jr. nothing much has changed about his tools since he was a top 10 pick 4 years ago. he still lacks a bat and has a s*** tonne of speed.

Sean Gilmartin - Another former high profile prospect. LHP who isn't very hittable by lefties. But has nothing above average about him.

Cody Martin - 25 year old Atlanta's number 11 prospect who in 40 AAA starts put up 8.3 K/9 3.5 BB/9. Was a reliever in college, didn't convert to starter until 2014 so doesn't have much mileage on the arm. He should be picked by someone and stashed in the pen for a year or spot starter. Isn't probably a true fit for the Jays.

Jarlin Garcia - Not for the Jays...but a 60 fastball and 50 Curve is a chance for someone to pick up a solid young LHP. He's only the 4th best lefty in the minors for the Marlins which is why they didn't give him a spot on the 40.

Pretty surprised that Gilmartin is available... I'd rather have him as my #5 SP than Big Pelf, but I guess it's hard to cut a guy making 5.5M.

JR Graham surprised me too. He didn't look as good after his injury but he's still throwing 97

AA says they are worried that they may lose 2 to 3 guys tomorrow and unlikely to select anyone.

Goodbye Infante, Cole.. Stilson/Berti/Burns etc., maybe

It's interesting because if he feels that way, why didn't he protect them? There were guys on the roster that he could have removed.

Punting your major league depth in order to protect guys with fringe relief/bench potential is a dangerous game.

But, remember last year. The Jays picked Brian Moran and then immediately flipped him to the Angels for international cap space. That was neat-o.

Moran ended up having the TJS in April, lol.

Ok so what happens to or with players not claimed in this type of draft? Remain property of thier teams or free to shop themselves to others?

Property of their teams.

Domingo Tapia, rhp, Mets: Midway through the 2013 season, Tapia seemed unlikely to be on a list of Rule 5 unprotected players. He had touched 100 mph and was stifling high Class A hitters. But his stuff has backed up since then while his control remains below-average, which explains why he’s still in high Class A.

Luis Cessa, rhp, Mets: Another conversion project, Cessa has been a slow-mover as he’s been used as a starter. He has an athletic delivery, with a big arm (93-95 mph fastball) and a fringe average breaking ball and changeup, and he throws a lot of strikes (1.78 BB/9 in 374 IP).

Greg Peavey, rhp, Mets: The former Little League star threw 90 mph as a 14-year-old and has gained 2-4 mph since. Coming off an excellent season in Double-A Binghamton, the Oregon State alum doesn’t fit normal profile of type of pitcher who sticks in Rule 5.

Logan Verrett, rhp, Mets: The four-pitch Baylor alum has above-average control that has helped him succeed at Triple-A (11-5, 4.33 at Las Vegas in 2014), but he lacks a true plus pitch and he’s always been vulnerable to lefthanded hitters.

Rockies will pick someone tomorrow in Rule 5 but don't know who yet. Would be shocked if J.R. Graham got past the Twins at five.

Someone prospects value gonna skyrocket (hitter) or be destroyed (pitcher) #LoD
