I'm guessing they expect one or more of the projected AAA starters (Sanchez, Norris, Nolin, Graveman, Romero) to make the Majors out of ST and Hendriks is Buffalo depth. I never want to see that guy pitch for the Jays again so that better be the reason, and the catcher better be bad.

I actually like Hendricks. This might be a good trade depending on who the catcher is. I hope it's not Chung. That guy is an awesome defensive catcher.

Wilner just tweeted that Hendriks is out of options so forget Buffalo unless they can sneak him down.

This seems a little odd, but I have to think he's the new long man next year. Throws strikes, youngish, cheap, some upside. Could be a lot worse options imo, especially since Redmond will almost certainly be graduating to higher profile situations. Seems like a bit of a waste to give up a player to get someone to fill that role though.

The Jays need better players, not graduating the mediocre ones to higher profile situations. Redmond is a good long reliever/mop up duty type of guy. Not so good anything-above-that type of guy

Also, Hendriks for nothing is a pretty good deal. Hendriks for anything other than a salary dump....not so much. There are plenty of cheap options out there that can provide what he provides.

Strange timing of the trade too. The Royals just got off losing the World Series barely 15 hours ago and they're already sending Hendriks out? Maybe this was pre-planned during the original trade once the season was over.

Fairly SSS, but Redmond has a career 3.25 FIP and 3.61 xFIP vs righties (with a good k/bb), and gets destroyed vs lefties. Moving him to a role where they can match him up better makes a certain amount of sense. Hendriks should be roughly equivalent to Redmond in the long relief role.

Of course, the also probably could have just plopped Jenkins in that role.

This was the big offseason move AA was talking about ...If this doesn't pencil the Blue Jays in for a playoff spot next year, then I'm not sure what else will.
