get a proper catcher in Russell Martin.

i'd roll with that. probably a slight upgrade to the staff this year. wouldn't win the division for you, but wouldn't lose it either. re-sign Melky; get a proper SS/2B and shift Reyes to the other position; Cecil as closer and sign a relief arm or two. that's probably an 86-88 win team assuming that no major extended injuries occur in 2015. probably good enough for a Wild Card spot, which i think it realistic given the budget constraints of this staff.

 

wouldn't dump Dickey or Buehrle - that's about 400 innings that you're losing there. don't expect to fill that within with Happ + new guys and still contend. don't really see any equivalent on the FA/trade market that would be an upgrade to Dickey/Buehrle let alone as durable - and don't want to give up good assets for a replacement pitcher for the sake of freeing up some cash

They aren't out there trying to throw as hard as they can, taking 30 seconds between pitches to rest their weary arms, and to increase that SwStr%, so that they can blow out their arm and we can talk about how awesome they could have been if they had just stated healthy and consistent.
