DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I wonder if we can package Gose for Alcantra. They're really wasting him in CF. I wouldn't give up much more than Gose. I don't think Alcantra is going to hit very well at the MLB level (not that Gose can either).
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Do you not follow the Cubs or just have a strong disdain for all their players? lol @ Buehrle for Castro / Gose for Arismendy
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 How is that giving away Castro? Because Castro is a legit SS on a good contract and you don't need to trade that for a guy who can get "200 innings and be a vetrin presents". Its not like the Cubs are going for a pennant next season and need to sacrifice long term value for short term value. Shame on you if you were actually being serious..
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Do you not follow the Cubs or just have a strong disdain for all their players? lol @ Buehrle for Castro / Gose for Arismendy Who's more likely to put up a 3WAR season next year, Castro or Buehrle? I think Buehrle, even though I like Castro as an above average SS. I actually said I wouldn't give up much more than Gose. I don't think Alcantra will hit so why would I suggest giving up very much for him?

Buehrle isn't retiring next season and I expect his stats would improve in the NL.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 You make it sound like the Cubs are going for the WS next year. They certainly aren't shooting for the bottom of the standings
Hipfan Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Seems like a good place to post this article on Stroman http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=24627 Interesting read...I have to say I've been impressed with Stroman this year and if he can be 1/2 the pitcher of Maddux he will be good. Here's hoping he keeps improving next year and does become our "ace".
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Buehrle + $ for Castro makes a lot of sense IMO. lol oh my
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 They certainly aren't shooting for the bottom of the standings Not shooting for the bottom of the standings = trade a long term above average shortstop for aging pitcher
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 If the Blue Jays had Castro, most posters on here would be asking the world for him.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 lets just forget that Buehrle trade was ever posted here, and return to our regular scheduled talk
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Buehrle isn't retiring next season and I expect his stats would improve in the NL. So? Hes a free agent..So much dumb I don't even know what to say
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Buehrle isn't retiring next season and I expect his stats would improve in the NL. so would most pitchers' stats
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Starlin Castro is a full 2 years younger than Ryan Goins..Think of that one for a second lol
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Not shooting for the bottom of the standings = trade a long term above average shortstop for aging pitcher Trade a talented player at a position that you have a surplus of options for a talented player that can provide you with wins in an area of need. Hilarious.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 So? Hes a free agent..So much dumb I don't even know what to say And he can be resigned.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Starlin Castro is a full 2 years younger than Ryan Goins..Think of that one for a second lol Goins isn't a young player, he is 26yo and in his prime. Think about that for a second.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 If the Blue Jays had Castro, most posters on here would be asking the world for him. Most posters on here are cynical so I imagine they'd be on the hate train.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 When you have a choice between two roughly equal players, you always take the will-be-36-year-old rental pitcher with a 83.8 MPH fastball over the above average shortstop locked up for cheap. Always.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 When you have a choice between two roughly equal players, you always take the will-be-36-year-old rental pitcher with a 83.8 MPH fastball over the above average shortstop locked up for cheap. Always. Or you look at situations within their given context and make decisions based on the whole picture.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Or you look at situations within their given context and make decisions based on the whole picture. And when you pretend that the Cubs are in dire need of vetrin leadership from an aging pitcher, it works out perfectly.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 And when you pretend that the Cubs are in dire need of vetrin leadership from an aging pitcher, it works out perfectly. No one is pretending anything. Their farm is stacked, top prospects are in the MLB or on the cusp, good core of young players. Tehy do lack verteran leadership, especially in the rotation. Buehrle is still a good pitcher and can help them win now. It's time to switch to a winning mentality. They're only a couple pieces away from contention and have payroll space to fill in some holes.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 And he can be resigned. For Free Agent money...Your obviously just trolling at this point.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 And the Phillies wanted Urias, Seager, and Pederson for Hamels. And I wanted $500M for my textbook I was selling. What kind of textbook???
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 For Free Agent money...Your obviously just trolling at this point. For a market value contract. He's not going to get $19M, the deal was backloaded. There would be nothing wrong with the Cubs signing Buehrle for 3yrs ~$40M. We all know he loves Chi town.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I will take Castro if we can move him off shortstop. Oh wait we already have a SS like that. While he is still below avg hes a lot better than Reyes.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Could you imagine in infield of Edwin, Reyes, Castro, and Valencia. Our pitchers would never try to throw a ground ball again lol. Lawrie-Reyes-Castro-Edwin would be a great infield...
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I will take Castro if we can move him off shortstop. Oh wait we already have a SS like that. He's not bad enough to need to move off of SS.
