Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 JFaS is AA, or AA is reading this forum? SNBarryDavis AA isn't opposed to going multi years to sign a reliever but "knowing the volatility of relievers, it has to be the right guy" #BlueJays
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 so with out need for relief pitchers.....castro surely can't crack the opening day roster can he? Will he come up mid season, September, or not at all? Tough to tell with such a young player, but it sounded like AA wants to gamble on the kid.

He still needs work on his secondary pitches and command. Right now the fastball is plus (maybe plus plus) but thats it.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Marwin Gonzalez from the Astros what would we have to give ? Switch hitter can play 4 or more positions on the field! Super utility guy. Jenkins? Izturis? What?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 The three players acquired this off season has brought a lot of respect to AA. We need him to follow up by acquiring proven relievers. Very important to have a good relief core

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Who would you like? Chapman? Kimbrel? Jansen? Yes
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Yes would you give up stroman for any of them?
baubau Verified Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 No. What if Chapman were to be converted into a starter? Would you do it then?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 What if Chapman were to be converted into a starter? Would you do it then? Well, if you traded for Chapman as a reliever, you could convert him into a starter anyway, lol Assuming Chapman is like a 4 win pitcher (JFaS posted numbers I think?), you'd be paying 5 cheap-ish years of a 2.5-3 win pitcher for 1 year of 4 wins at a not-inexpensive salary and then maybe the right to pay him at the very least market value
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Who would you like? Chapman? Kimbrel? Jansen? Proven relievers does not equal high end closers Proven relievers as in guys who have consistently provided good relief pitching in the past
skicross1 Verified Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Question does anyone expect to have AA in on the hamels trade rumours ? at least kick the tires , starting rotation may not be a weakness but when we look at what Boston has done I for one would love to see a move for Hamels . What would it take to get it done ? Obviously they are not moving Stroman , Sanchez or Pompey.

Just doesn't make sense for ANY team to do that trade.

I would argue that he is good Value when you look at what Lester got from the Cubs 6 years 155 million Hamels is 90 mill for 4 years with a 20 mill option in 2019 Hamels is cheaper and I would argue that he is a better Pitcher. and stats say that his fastball velocity have gone up the last 3 years . plus 4 years of control is pretty stable and lines up with the window the jays seem to have to win . and he said he wants to go to a contender and win .

On a free agent deal, sure... Not when the Phillies are going to be asking for a huge return of assets.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 Sanchez and Pompey should absolutely be on the table for Hamels.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Sanchez and Pompey should absolutely be on the table for Hamels?. you sure bro?
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 That is still a decent sized contract with a guy who was having shoulder problems last year. I wouldn't be so quick to make a deal like that.
skicross1 Verified Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Sanchez and Pompey should absolutely be on the table for Hamels. I'm not sure I would go that far but I'd atleast test the waters with some prospects . No one would care in october that the prospect shelf is dry if the jays are a contender in the post season
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Sanchez and Pompey should absolutely be on the table for Hamels. Especially if they'd eat some dough.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Especially if they'd eat some dough. I'd hate to give up top end prospects for a guy with that much mileage on the arm. If they can't get Shields, Jays should target a guy like Edwin Jackson from the Cubbies as 5th starter, bullpen rightie. Jackson seems to be surplus now. Cubbies will have to eat some salary tho Allows Sanchez and Norris to start the year in Buffalo
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Estrada is a good enough 5th starter/bullpen piece
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Estrada is a good enough 5th starter/bullpen piece He's good depth. Jays don't have enough
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 LOL right now Chad Jenkins is the No. 3 man in the bullpen depth chart, according to MLB.COM
