GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Drabek in the pen? Hm. This could work well. Probably won't but it could, hypothetically.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 In 2022 we will still be talking about Drabek, reaching at straws that he'll one day return to his 2018 form, the one year he was a plausible #3 starter. He'll have a career just like McGowan. Hell, if we're lucky we'll still be talking about McGowan by then and his 30 IP of ok relief pitching and 2 DL stints a year
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Could be interesting. Drabek has a 7-7 record, 4.00 ERA, 67/28 K/BB ratio in AAA. He has also been converted to relief, where he's been a solid 3-1 with a 2.77 ERA and a 16/5 K/BB ratio.

Nice, I like how you put his win-loss record in first, so all the advanced stat nerds will take a dump right then and there in their office chair.

He was the backbone of Halladay trade. I imagine he will be given exact opportunity to make majors. Even if in bullpen
Slider Verified Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I can see him being a good bullpen reliever. When he is on, he has nasty stuff which will help him have great success being a reliever. He won't have to pitch long innings as he would being a starter so that mean's (hopefully) he will be injured less. I'm excited to see him getting another chance this season.

His stuff has deteriorated though. The Kyle Drabek you will see now is not the Kyle Drabek of 2012 in terms of stuff. His fastball is more 91-93 with very little life, a far cry from the 94-96 with great movement we saw previously. He's probably more of a Chad Jenkins now and I doubt he is better than Jenkins will ever be.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 He was sent down because of his lack of control...he's walked 11 (to 44 Ks) in his last 62 innings. He deserved the call...and most importantly they listened to me who started to call for him to the Pen back in May. While I might not always be right, this head office could do worse than reading my posts and following suit.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Will probably be Drabek's last shot at least with this club being out of options next year. Hopefully it winds up like a Cecil situation and he can be a solid BP arm. He wasn't too bad once converted down in AAA so maybe it'll help be a replacement for McGowan if/when they decline that $4M option and Janssen likely walks.
GNick49 Verified Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I would give Jenkins a few starts and rest Hutchinson. See if Jenkins can start. Hutch's stuff is not the same as it was in May. He's never pitched this many innings before. Coming off TJ he may not be built up enough to with stand a full season yet.
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 In his last 8 appearances, all in relief, he's thrown 10 innings, K'ing 3 and BB'ing 0, while allowing 13 hits (+1 HBP), no HR and 4 ER. Doesn't really scream "call me up." But if they're looking for a fresh RH arm for the pen, it's only between Drabek and Delabar as to who gets the call, without having to make a 40-man move ... and Delabar has been K'ing a crap ton, but walking a lot while being unhittable (in last 5 app, he's gone 5.2IP, 10 Ks, 5 BBs, 1 Hit and no ER). Two entirely distinctive options to choose from ... one who is just pitching to pure contact and the other pitching to no contact at all. I'd take my changes with Drabek. The problem with Delabar is you can't bring him in with runners on < 2out. He'll walk the bases loaded and then everyone watching inherits a .25% hair loss bonus. I'm almost bald thanks to him this year.
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 So, you want to see a guy who will get hit around, and around, and around, and around (that's if he doesn't resort back to his Wild West days, like he did in previous MLB call-ups) ... rather than a guy who will K a ton and walk the park? Personally, I'd rather they bring in someone competent, rather than either of these two jokers. I'd rather this too.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I'd rather this too. Frankly, who wouldn't?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Frankly, who wouldn't? At this point, who cares?
