AA on FAN590 just now

As close as he can say it in AA-speak

Sounds like that's almost certainly the plan

Our savious cometh....Im not as excited as some on here about the Norris, Sanchez, Stro next year and year after blue sky "cheap young rotation of the future".

Seen enough Hutchs, Drabeks, Romeros, Morrows etc to know one or two of them will get hurt and/or not be as effective as we would like to hope.

This was our year to make a run and in the last off season and again at deadline it was f***ed up beyond belief.

I agree, any or all of the 3 could fall to tommy john next year which will be our convenient excuse for missing the playoffs.

I don't know how you cannot be excited about the potential of our rotation in the coming years. Even if you hate every single one of our prospects we still have more pitching depth and talent getting closer to the majors than we have in awhile.

Remember when Kyle Drabek tossed a no-hitter in AA ball? Our future looked impeccable. Though I am happy we've kept our pitching prospects intact and looking forward to seeing Norris.

Yeah and Drabek had great stuff. Spike curveball and a two seamer that moved like Halladay's. I remember there was a day game with Drabek and they were interviewing AA while he was pitching. Drabek threw a two seamer to strike out a guy and AA stopped mid sentence and say "s'oooooh" as if he was having an orgasm.

Not sure why he has lost his stuff so suddenly. His injury couldn't have affected his stuff that bad...

Listen...I love to watch young talent develop and its been a total pleasure seeing early days with Sanchez and Stro...I just want to be realistic; not naïve and not a donkey chasing a f***ing carrot every year.

We had a real shot THIS YEAR in the now...not in make believe land of our future glory.

2011 - Romero, Cecil, Marcum and Morrow...with phenom and AA pitcher of the year Drabek in the wings...

Our young affordable controllable rotation of the future.

Probably because we've watched baseball long, and intently, enough to realize that dreams of future success are typically just that - dreams. And most of these guys will, soon enough, be the guys we want pushed out and replaced in favor of the next wave of "exciting" possibilities. Potential gets you fired.

go play in traffic... just take a couple days off and try not to be such a Debbie Downer. Let people be happy. It really doesn't matter if they are delusional or uninformed, just let them ride the happy wave.

it's a mental thing with Drabek, just like Romero, volatile young players with great expectations on them. It happens way too often.

Apparently its not mental though, his actual stuff has decreased. He had TJS so its no suprise to see his stuff decline. The commentator for the Bisons was on the fan the other day and said while he can have trouble with his command at times its more his stuff just not being the same pre 2nd TJS. His fastball is flat and doesn't have that same life or velocity. He's pretty much done at this point.

Drabek is a bust... Romero is a used to be and we have no idea if they can use Santos ever again. a lot of dead weight

I think Sanchez and Stro-show are going to be very useful. We'll have to hope that Norris can be a piece going forward as well

Posted
So apparently Norris is 1st and ahead of Sanchez on the Blue Jays internal prospect rankings as well. No real surprise here although the media seems to make a huge deal about Sanchez which us think otherwise a little bit.

Drabek had everything:

-Top rated "stuff"

-High velocity

-Minors success

-Cy Young blood lines (Dad won a Cy Young).

-Was raised to be a major league pitcher from a young age.

-Ranked a top prospect by all of the prospect analyzers

-Had tommy john early so it was unlikely that he would need another one in a long time

Amazing to see how far he fell off.

Hard to not be very impressed with Sanchez short body of work with us. Same with Stro. Norris in Sept will be interesting.

Im pleasantly amazed at how well Sanchez has done so far, given his command in Minors.

Reason for some optimism.

I honestly feel like with Sanchez it's because he's not throwing 80+ pitches. Even the games when he approaches 30 his command goes. I really feel like he's not going to stick as a starter because of that (though I hope I am wrong). I see him ending up in the back of the bullpen.

That and for a long time our organization just sucked with prospects. Like they will have a guy with a great slider or curveball and get him to stop throwing it and throw the opposite instead. I don't even comprehend a lot of the decisions that have bee made with some of our prospects over the years and Drabek is a prime example of that.

imo, part of the issue with Romero was the pressure he (and the jays) put on himself as the #1 ace of the staff...totally unfair when at the time he was performing, was at best a #2 but more like a #3 or #4.

Romero also doesn't strike me as someone who had a strong mindset, though that is just a matter of opinion. There is no real way to quantify "mental toughness".

Morrow strikes me the same.

Stroman and Hoffman are two guys that look like they want to be a starting pitcher and prove people wrong.

Posted
Yeah Hoffman's comments when he got selected definitely raised my eyebrows, but not because his cockiness, but because he felt really confident. You don't hear that type of stuff from pitchers these days.

Hutch too. He's a gamer.

He gets his feet wet and his real face will be in MLB The Show next year. I like this. Hopefully he continues to dominate Triple-A

I want to see Stroman on the cover of MLB The Show in 3-4 years. Blowing a bubble.

Facts are that if you have 10 decent pitching prospects n the minors less than half will become major league pitchers. The reason to believe in Norris is scouts rate him so high and he has succeeded at high levels in the minors. The issue I have is his innings limit next year. proper development means he comes up to the majors being able to go 180 to 200 innings

The Riccardi era drafted poorly and had even shittier development people. JPR was the worst GM in the history of the Jays and yes worst than Gord Ash

hard to develop pitching prospects when they get over protected at every level. I think they need to stretch guys out at a younger age. the way things are now, the jump from minors to majors is too big and I think it contributes to why so many pitchers get injured. just my opinion of course.

I can understand it when guys are 21-22, their bodies are starting to get to the point where their done growing, don't baby them. I'm fine with babying the 16-17-18 year old guys.
