comeon sense Verified Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 How about they get their eyes checked instead of relying on what they know of the pitcher?? They should get their eyes checked every night, and use eyedrops.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 It's not the ump's fault. He's simply not physically able to tell where the ball crosses the plate, none of the umps are. They guess.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Just like globalization(integration)... it sucks. Thye can switch it back anytime they want to NL umps, and AL umps, and we will get more consistency. They should make mandatory eye tests and performance reviews a few times a year for the umps. We have the pitching tracking now and it should be weighed against what they're calling. Allow managers and players to file complaints against them. If it's obvious they called a strike when it's 6" outside hold it against them and if they called it a ball right down the middle. I think that would go a long way if their jobs depended on it. Everyone screws up especially under pressure of the bigs but hold them accountable. If people screwed up as much as they did at their jobs they'd be disciplined or terminated.

They guess. That is true in many cases but if that's what they have to do then why have the umps? Go to the computer tracking. if they guess wrong it's annoying at best, a game changer at worse all for guessing.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 So far this game has been as advertised: nice pitching match up. One big hit could be the ball game like it has been the past few games.

The umps should be given computer aids (like Google Glass or just relayed balls/strikes through a headset) because as humans they're not able to accurately discern where the ball crossed the plate. Not because they're lazy/bad at their jobs. It should be about helping the umps, not crucifying or replacing them.

They guess. lol That reads as funny. So then we should use a big robot computer who can tell, then makes a beeping sound for a strike. That would be fine with me,as long as they got it right. Umps were much less hated, that they are now.

Just like the NFL has accountability, and punishemnt for bad refs, who make bad calls.

It can instantly show them where the pitch was or track it. I wasn't saying they all were, my apologies if I was generalizing too much. I'm sure there are some lazy ones like everywhere and everyone makes a bad call but I was reserving the comment to those who seem to be consistently inconsistent. I should have specified that more.

Being able to tell within an inch where a small round projectile that travels at 90+ mph while breaking as much as a foot in two dimensions crosses a pentagonal plane at a height that depends on the batter's stance is unpossible. It's unfair to expect the umps to be perfect (or close to it) because they're not endowed with the tools to do so.

Thats why it worked better when there were NL,and AL umpires who stuck to their own leagues. They had some cool umpires who were actually liked, and added personality to the game.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Good idea! Just like the NFL has accountability, and punishemnt for bad refs, who make bad calls. I wouldn't mind seeing some who are known to blow it to be punished. Some ump blowing a call once in a while isn't the end of the world but it should be noted. If it's consistent or consistently inconsistent with a strike zone, or making bad calls then there should be some kind of penalty. Another example is if an ump seems to favour or single out certain players for an unreasonable or personal matter and punishes them ie calls a strike on a close pitch against a hitter or a ball against a pitcher. There's enforcing your authority and letting them know especially a young, hot headed player, that they have to act a certain way and then there's what we've seen some umps do, take something personal and really overreact. Thankfully that doesn't happen a lot.

Not that long ago, they had no trouble calling accurate strikes, and players didn,t argue anywhere near the amount they do today. You add up all those calls over a game, and it enrages some players, and fans, plus that tracker thing on tv.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 About the worst field postition+ pitch selection by navarro....if no one is near LF....u dont throw fastballs repeatedly to vmart on the outside corner....he is batting .320...wtf that was so f***ing stupid

No way. He's not batting .350 only .320! Oh look what happened. Just when you think Narvy is putting it together that happens.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Too many of the Jay's hitters are completely over matched hitting in the big leagues
comeon sense Verified Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Jerry Howarth time. Cant listen to Buck, and Pat slobber over the opposing pitcher anymore.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Good job! Keep the hits coming now!
comeon sense Verified Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Jerry Howarth time. Cant listen to Buck, and Pat slobber over the opposing pitcher anymore. oops.howarth aint on,its Wilner time.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Double means they'll pitch around Bautista or try fooling him and making him go after a bad pitch.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Top of the order finally get'n some Go Jays
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Bautista still unclutch as f***. Sigh
comeon sense Verified Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 The switch to radio pays off with a run. Yipppeeee!
comeon sense Verified Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 If Buck and Pat love the Tigers and Dave Dombrowski so much they can go ahead and put in their 2 weeks and apply for a job. This is a Jays broadcast, stop trying to make it an 'everyone but' broadcast. We don't watch because we want to feel s***** about our team compared to literally everyone else. Bring back Fergie Oliver!
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Extend Melky now!!! I hope they extend him soon (at least before FA window expires) since it'll be a blow next year. I might cry if they let him go without any intention on bringing him back and/or to a team that has an offer the Jays could easily match or beat.
