With Michael Cuddyer due back in mid-August, a Barnes deal, at the right price, could make sense, but an MLB source says Toronto has not yet put together a deal for Barnes."
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 2 things. 1. Who the f*** is Brandon Barnes? 2. What the f*** is a utillity outfielder? The former Astros guy (Luhnow denied to trade him in Happ trade) who only hit well at Coors field
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 If he doesn't cost much he'd be a nice pickup. Good defensive player, hits lefties, and will have 4 years left of control after this year, meaning he could serve as the platoon partner with Rasmus for the remainder of this season and then platoon with Gose next season.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 While we are at it it wouldn't be a bad idea to kick the tires on De La Rosa or Anderson too. Perhaps even Hawkins.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Just looked up the splits. This guy can't hit whatsoever. has a 85 wRC in his career vs LHP with a .362 BABIP with some of those games coming at Coors this season. Dont want him enless you are getting him for cash considerations.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Maybe just maybe the Jays aren't going to pick up any type of minor addition are instead going for a big piece.!!!
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 This pleases Hurl. Now if they'd just listen to me immediately, instead of waiting...Pearce and Barnes were my cheap off-season platoon targets. Jays tried for Pearce eventually and then he refuses them and becomes a monster. Now they are looking at Barnes. I expect him to take off right after the Jays don't acquire him.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Well Pearce refused us. And they are trying to get Barnes. So they are listening. Perace would have been really f***ing nice right now, Pearce could have even played some first through the Encarnacion injury. Yeah, real bummer that we missed out on him.

The guy can hit lefties.

You trade for a guy to produce this year to help the team, not take on a project. You need players that will help the team win this year and can't afford Barnes to have time to turn it around.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 This is why Nick Franklin doesn't make any sense if your trying to win. Yes he could be a nice long term option at second base. But I don't feel hes an impact player right now. He struggled during his stint earlier in the year. We need a guy who can come in and be impact player at second base now. That's Chase Utley. If they want an impact player thats the guy to get. Buehrle for Wong?
