KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I honestly don't think he'd use RAD in this situation if he could use MB or Stroman Game 1 of the regular season is about ceremony and respect That wildcard game is about winning at all costs and he won't give a s*** about hurting Dickey's feelings or anything like that. He'd use MB or Stroman in a heartbeat if he could. Plus Hutch may look better by then too and be an option. No way he uses Dickey or Happ unless he had no choice. Like Gibby himself says "I might be dumb but I ain't stupid" Could you imagine if things line up so that Happ has to pitch in a play-in game? After all the debate about the trade, after a spring training where his job looked in jeopardy, he ends up having the hold fan base rooting for him but also chewing their nails to see if he becomes a hero or the ultimate goat. I don't want it to happen but it would sure make for some drama. (I really, really don't want it to come to that. Division please!)

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Oh my God you guys are giving me ulcers thinking about having to watch Happ or Dickey in a win or go home game s***, the last game of the season against Baltimore could be win or go home too I'd better buy some Tums. LOL

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Go have a beer or 40 Getting drunk at a buddy's place tonight. It's free!!! And he's cooking Vietnamese food. And I have to work Saturday morning. f*** this is starting to sound like a bad idea now that I type it out like this.
labadee Verified Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 LOL And he becomes the OTHER "Big Game James"?? affirmative btw i'm not actually serious. i would be terrified for the season resting on him
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Funny thing is if it came down to Hutch him or RAD I would defiantly pick him lol J.A. Happ 4.18 Fip, 4.31 xFIP R.A. Dickey 4.53 Fip, 4.18 xFIP Hutch 3.81 Fip. 4.06 xFIP (and trending the wrong way) Not much to choose from. All crap shoots really. Dickey is the most painful to watch but his fielding probably makes him a little more valuable than the nerd stats indicate although not necessarily more valuable than Happ. I think Dickey on a strict pitch count is the best option. The guy simply cannot give you length without gas canning it but you can usually trust him to be good for 5 innings. Something like Dickey then one of Happ or Hutch then the bullpen might work. At his best Hutch is the best pitcher of the group but who knows what he has left in the tank now much less what he'll have at the end of the season. He might already be in the bullpen by then.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Honestly, what 23 year old rookie will just decide to start using a new pitch he just learned after 2 month in the bigs. Dude has balls the size of watermelons.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I honestly don't think I could watch while the Angels were batting when I watch games the next day, I usually watch our guy pitch the first, maybe the second and then just watch our offense and hope for the best. lol
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 And yet you still can't buy a Stroman jersey online?? WTF? I have 200 bucks sitting here and I f***ing want one now!! 43211234 Verified Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 You can't say easily for sure. If the last game of the regular season is a win and in the wild card we have to win that first, what if Stro is only on 2 days rest it would be irresponsible to do that to a rookie. There is a lot of factors that go into it so you can't say Stroman Easily. Things don't always work out that perfectly. I was assuming the question had no limiters like that and it was simply hypothetical. In a vacuum it's Stroman. Easily.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 MB He's been in big games before and typically holds the opposition to 3 runs or less over his 6 or 7 innings. Jays offence should do the rest. Stro for the next game.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Buerhle without a doubt. He has playoff experience.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Nobody. Jays take division with 93 wins. Dunno about that, man. O's have been heating up lately.

Molitor Verified Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Of course I only made this thread from the question coming up on the FAN this morning Let's beat the Yankees first I loved the fan who called in all serious and said that he would go with Aaron Sanchez as if: 1) Two innings is enough of a justification that he is ready for MLB 2) He'll surpass the effectiveness that Stroman and Beurhle by the end of the season I think if the Jays are going to make the playoffs at all, Stroman is going to have to continue a strong second half anyway. So I would assume he'd be pitching well and he probably has the highest ceiling out of our pitchers for any given game so I would go with him.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I always found it best to set your playoff rotation in July, early birds...
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 team takes a real risk of backlash if they go with a rookie in a one game playoff MB protects them from that risk
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I don't this TL was being serious s***. I'm no good at detecting sarcasm online.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 If I'm the manager I start Janssen for two innings, then Loup for an inning or inning-plus (depending on if a lefty is due up in the fourth inning), then go to Stroman for 90 pitches. Hutch and Cecil take the rest, playing the platoons. That's not going to happen though. Given a choice among traditional starters, Stroman. Honestly, what advantage would there be to pitching your closer, set-up guy and starter in reverse order like that? I really don't see any.
