KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I think there's a non negligible chance that the Jays need a few Morrow starts down the stretch. The rotation though effective is paper thin right now. There are no contingencies in place if Hutch or Stroman are fatigued and injuries could always happen. The only other starters waiting in the wings right now are Nolin and Hendricks and they are coming back from injuries of their own. Redmond isn't stretched out and pretty soon Rogers won't be either.

Excellent point We have all written Morrow off more or less, but getting him back for even 5-6 weeks down the stretch COULD be very helpful.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) "Morrow remains a tantalizing wild card for the Blue Jays with the potential to provide a significant boost to the rotation or bullpen, or not return at all" No s***. Tell me something I didn't know...this same quote parallels his entire career. I have 0 expectations so if he comes back and does anything positive its icing. He has been mostly awful since the oblique issue took him down in 2012. He has been a chandelier his entire career. Edited July 25, 2014 by BigCecil
polar bear Verified Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Morrow will never throw another inning for the Jays. I hope you are right ECJF,some people have very short memories of how bad this guy really is.

I could say the same about the people that act as if Morrow is some JA Happ-lite gascan. I understand that he's a wildcard, is diabetic and did struggle but when healthy can be an excellent starter for this team.

To this point there have been no setbacks, even if his possible return may be taking a bit longer than expected." Hopefully the FO doesn't use a possible Morrow return as an excuse to not upgrade somewhere around the diamond or on the mound.

I understand that he's a wildcard, is diabetic and did struggle but when healthy can be an excellent starter for this team. That's not even true though. Look at his WPA's over the last two seasons. He's had maybe three excellent starts? He only threw 6 innings in 6/16 starts over that period as well. He's almost on the wrong side of 30 as well. Things aren't going to get any better for him. Happ is clearly more useful than Brandon Morrow moving forward.

Happ is clearly more useful than Brandon Morrow moving forward. Well, this season he's had 3 starts deemed good by xFIP, one at 2.65, another at 1.70 (the 9 K game) and another decent one at 3.21. But then he had the horrawful 8 walk start and that kind of skewed the numbers. IMO the only way Happ is more useful than Morrow is if the latter gets injured again (which is a very real possibility), but to say that a healthy Morrow isn't the much better asset is pretty far out there.
DH12 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Hutchinson may be done for the year. He looks to be hitting a wall after his Tommy John surgery year and they probably have an innings cap on him anyway. So, sadly they may have to use Morrow if he's ready
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Stop talking s*** folks, he's for real when healthy. I've been saying for years he's overrated, hopefully he proves me wrong but to expect him to be a good starter is setting yourself up for disappointment.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Stop talking s*** folks, he's for real when healthy. Who is talking s***? It is a fact that he is an aging diabetic with a horrible injury track record. He is completely unreliable. He is nothing more than a big bag of missed potential.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Stop talking s*** folks, he's for real when healthy. He's as healthy as Greg oden.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I can see Morrow replacing Hutch in the rotation soon. I think Hutch is hurt or really tired or something.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I can see Morrow replacing Hutch in the rotation soon. I think Hutch is hurt or really tired or something. Morrow hasn't even thrown off of a mound without the protective tape off of his finger. He is at least 1.5-2 months away knowing him.
jays76 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Hopefully he gets back sooner than later but I'm thinking bullpen is the best case scenario if he does make it back setback free this year. It would take a miracle of all miracles for him to come back efficient and rust free as a starter in time to put in meaningful games for a Wildcard push. Essentially we're stuck with Hutch & Happ for the duration unless AA pulls the trigger on a deal (highly unlikely imo) or Sanchez gets weaned into starting after a few more pen appearances (but they might not want to rush him).
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Now thats analysis! You mad, bro?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Stop talking s*** folks, he's for real when healthy. Point being he is rarely healthy and even when healthy struggles with command and pitch count etc...ya...I saw the one hitter. Stuff is not his issue. Everything else is.
