HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 So he's gonna be joining us on the 25-man? I don't see the point of just getting rid of Wilson if we want to put him in the 40 man
sh3156 Verified Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Depressing news. Is this guy going to take Glenn's place, Expectations: will waste another 20AB, and will do nothing Life goes on. Instead of acquiring proven bats, acquires another scrub Career wise this guy is worse at hitting LHP than RHP
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 So, there's our new 4th OF / RH platoon bat
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Bye bye to Brad Glenn or Mastro.. Gillespie is at least an upgrade (not much, though). .254/.312/.324, can play all three OF spots. Anything is better than Glenn/Mastro.

With Seattle, he was hitting .280/.357/.320, mostly playing vs. left handers. As I said, this is an upgrade, albeit a small one, over Mastro/Glenn.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 good work AA, now the team is complete
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 Marginal upgrade but reasonable and close to zero cost Now we can focus on getting Prado or Beltre
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Was there a legit Beltre rumour or did people on this board just start mentioning him?
sh3156 Verified Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 ^ I cant see Texas trading Beltre. If they are really selling, I would trade the farm for Beltre and Darvish. They can have anyone not on the 25 man roster.
bzapple Verified Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Was there a legit Beltre rumour or did people on this board just start mentioning him? The latter. People are assuming that because the Rangers are out of contention this year, they must be willing to blow up their team, even though they'll likely have a good shot at contending next year once they get healthy again.

Add the fact they have a beast of a 3B prospect and it MIGHT make sense for them to trade Beltre though (though they were reluctant to trade Kinsler or Andrews for like a full year after Profar was ready, so they may be against gambles of that sort in principle)
North of 60 Verified Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Sometimes I wonder if AA is focusing on building a winner in AAA instead of in the ML.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 Sometimes I wonder if AA is focusing on building a winner in AAA instead of in the ML. Improving the MLB squad will help Buffalo too, by keeping guys like Mastro and Kawasaki down there
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 Sometimes I wonder if AA is focusing on building a winner in AAA instead of in the ML. Joking aside I think he's just trying to obtain that 4th OF/RHB on the cheap, and save his prospect capital for upgrading the infield and/or starting rotation. And that makes sense to me actually.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Gillaspie brothers hit like motherf***ers, but Gillespie isn't big deal

Hopefully Jose can get healthy and maybe Rasmus can bust out. Glen, Mastro and Pillar just aren't good enough. those 3 had the chance to bust onto the scene and get themselves a career that didn't involve bus trips and shady hotels... but apparently that's the limit of their ability.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 One of the RHB off the bench should be Pillar, but he's probably black listed now for being mad at being ph for. He'll probably be traded away for a bag of balls now.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 He may not be "the" answer, but he's better than Glenn and maybe Mastroianni, certainly better than this guy they just picked up. How can you be certain that Pillar is better than Gillespie?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 How can you be certain that Pillar is better than Gillespie? I'm not certain, but given how he's hit in the minors vs LHP, I'd rather give him a shot than certainly a guy like Glenn. I really haven't looked at what this new guy has done vs LHP in career, so I could be wrong, but I'd rather give Pillar a chance.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 How can you be certain that Pillar is better than Gillespie? Because!!! lol As good as any other reason

Mastroianni and Glen will be gone if they can't do something SOON.
