GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 The Cubs pretty much have CJ Edwards/Pierce Johnson and that's it as far as pitching prospects go. Both are having underwhelming/injury bitten years as well. I would love to try and flip Sanchez/Norris for an infielder (Bryant isn't going anywhere, but Baez could be a nice buy-low candidate). It makes sense for both clubs and we can probably get good value taking advantage of their need for SP youth. The Cubs could always end up moving Bryant to RF and Baez at 3B. Still have to move one of Russell/Castro though. Baez as a buy low? He's doing what he's done at every level. Struggled to start and improved every month thereafter.
metafour Verified Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Manny & Ortiz obliterate Jose & Edwin. Manny's arguably one of the greatest RHH of all time. And Ortiz was a machine early in his Sox career. Jose & Edwin are neither. Yea bro they're garbo. 6th and 7th in the league in wRC+.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) Yahoo sports reporting that A's were potentially nearing a deal for David Price but 1 - preferred the oportunity to get two starters at once and 2 - Didn't want to pay Price the 20M or so he will probably get through arbitration next year Edited July 6, 2014 by G-Snarls
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Best duo of the aughts was? ManRam and Ortiz Walker and Helton (obviously only the early years) Pujols and Edmonds Bonds and anyone. Outside of Bonds and anyone (which would be Kent). I'd go with Pujols and Edmonds over the other two. Carry on now I just thought I'd throw this in.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 i'd rather have the team going to the playoffs The A's weren't going to the playoffs before the trade?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Wow A's stole both those pitchers from right under AA's nose. Huge win for oakland. Jays shut out completely A bunch of other teams also shut out.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Obviously Beane is tired of coming up just short Losing in the first round of the playoffs again just won't do
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 A bunch of other teams also shut out. Exactly Yankees included AA isn't a magician. We don't have what the Cubs wanted.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Thanks. Didn't realize that, I haven't seen Happ's last few starts to be honest. It's summer and it's hard to sit inside and watch guys you consider junkballers. Hopefully gibbers doesn't call me a casual fan now. Odd that you've sought out to watch some McCarthy starts....a #4 IMO but don't want your summer to slip away by watching Jays games that are on for free pretty much every day.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Howard and Utley! Both were elite sluggers from 2006-2010. Meh...neither are even in the top 10 wRC from 2006 to 2009.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Yea bro they're garbo. 6th and 7th in the league in wRC+. 6th & 7th you say. My bad. Jose is Babe Ruth and Edwin is Lou Gehrig. I forgot it's a Jays forum and then sun never sets.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I'm aware of all that. But if I was choosing what side I liked better, I'm not picking short term assets past their primes, while having career years. It all depends on the circumstances. If you are never willing to trade prospects for vets, you may very well never win a WS. There is merit to both sides. Knowing Beane, he may flip Shark in the winter or next years trade deadline.

It's not that I'd never be willing to trade prospects, because at some point everything starts backing up.
