jayswin11 Verified Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Red Sox released him, I'd like to see the Jays pick him up.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I'd rather see a much bigger acquisition. There is no reason not to get Price and Zobrist...you just do it, think of the shockwave that deal would send through MLB and Toronto . Unfortunately I fear that someone like Capuano will be what we go with. Minus that we don't actually have the assets for them
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Minus that we don't actually have the assets for them They might do it for Lawrie, Stroman, and Norris. But that would be pretty f***ing disastrous.

The cost would probably be Stroman + Sanchez + Norris + Nolin and then some, and that's assuming that the Rays are even willing to deal within the division. Capuano would come with no trade cost and probably performs better than Happ. If the next step is then to somehow trade Happ, you'd free some cash with no loss to the team. Capuano clearly isn't the arm to put us over the top though, and no one is suggesting that he is.

While Toronto benefits for the one and a half years you're rebuilding anyway, you reap the benefits of literally having their farm two or three years later.

They've really never made a major trade within the division in their entire history. There have been a handful of small ones, but only three since 2004. One was for cash, and two for a PTBNL.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Fair enough, but that's as much on the other four organizations as on them. For some reason, I don't see TB making it policy to nix major trades against direct competitors, but I could be wrong.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Zobrist has a club option for next year at $7.5M. Do that, the Jays win the World Series, they re-sign Price, extend Zobrist, Stroman becomes a reliever, Lawrie keeps not playing (and turning into an all or nothing slugger in the rare instances he does play) and Norris never pans out. #theothersideofthecoin And as it usually is with baseball, the answer is likely somewhere inbetween
