G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) Ummm crazy idea: Trade for AJ Burnett as a rental? Could/would he block the trade or be willing to play for us for 2-3 months??? Prob doesn't want to leave even though I'm sure he sees the Phillies are going nowhere. Though it sounded like he was ALMOST interested in Toronto this off season until he decided to move near home. He doesn't seem like a particularly driven guy but if he saw a chance for a good late career kick at the can??? Edited June 24, 2014 by G-Snarls
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Sanchez Nay and Osuna?^ For Shark? 100% no
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Go for a McCarthy type, a 2B/SS buy low (Everth Cabrera maybe) and go hard in the off season after a Lester or Masterson.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Problem is we can't. We need a front end type and a McCarthy type. Front end guy will cost a lot. As I said, improve the rotation with McCarthy and the overall roster by buying low on a middle infielder. A RHB would also be great, but it might be too much to do in one month or so.

Edit: Yes, he could have looked him up before asking the question. But still... Sorry that came off more malicious than intended. Pompey is a very legit prospect though. Probably top 100.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Sorry that came off more malicious than intended. Pompey is a very legit prospect though. Probably top 100. No sweat. Should be in our top 10 by the end of the year if he keeps this up??
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Yea I'm not giving up Norris at all. Would hesitate on Pompey. Maybe something more along the lines of Sanchez + Nay + Chubby Mexican I still like Osuna more then Norris. If he wasn't injured I think he's close to major league ready. 19/20 years old making his major league debut.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 No sweat. Should be in our top 10 by the end of the year if he keeps this up?? Defintely, top 5
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 whatever happened to our other high pick, Matt Smoral? If I recall he should've went higher if it weren't for a broken foot.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I just read this on my fantasy website and thought id share with you. It says there's more at foxsports.com Cubs, Blue Jays at a stalemate for Jeff Samardzija The Cubs and Blue Jays can't agree on a deal for pitcher Jeff Samardzija, according to FoxSports.com. The Cubs are willing to make a deal, but Toronto is hesitant to meet Chicago's demands. The Cubs are reportedly asking for three prospects, pitcher Aaron Sanchez, pitcher Daniel Norris and outfielder Dalton Pompey. The Blue Jays are rumored to be willing to part with maybe one or two of those players, but do not want to deal all three. Samardzija is expected to be dealt by the trade deadline. He owns a 2.53 ERA over 103 innings. It's my first post, so be easy on me! Thx At the expense of a playoff push this year. I'd rather the Jays keep the 3 kids and offer Maeda a 20+m per year multi year deal.
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Sanchez Nay and Osuna?^ For Shark? 100% no I'd much rather do that than 2 of Sanchez, Norris and Pompey
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Haven't read much of this thread, but how about Gregorius and McCarthy? Cheap young SS/2B and a rotation option. Both undervalued or underutilized.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Shark will be dealt by the deadline. I don't see anyone topping 2 of Sanchez, Pompey, Norris..... It is going to be an interesting few weeks.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Trading Sanchez now would be a major sell low. He has ace potential and showed it in Montreal. Having said that.... not averse to him being traded for the right return. Shark makes me nervous though, his IP has been on a relatively steep incline, and we have had s***** luck trading for pitchers.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 That's a franchise crippling trade. The Blue Jays won't pull the trigger on that. Thats what the Cubs want. He said 2 of Sanchez, Pompey, and Norris Sanchez and Pompey for Shark would be reasonable.... Norris is untouchable in my view
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 There's no such thing as a sell-low. Sanchez's value could go even lower (he could get hurt or keep walking everyone) and then we'd be kicking ourselves for not trading him when he had top prospect shine. Shark pitched 174.2 innings in 2012 and 213 last year. This year he's made all his starts and could eclipse last year's innings. Not sure what you mean there. He's been very good since the start of 2012. Shark's IP last 4 years - 130, 88, 174, 213 And already 103 IP this year. That is not a relatively steep increase in IP over time? Trading 3 top prospects for a pitcher with unknown durability is risky As for Sanchez, this year is out of character for him, compared to previous years. Since mid 2013 he's struggled.... but can just as easily turn it around and be dominant again. That's what I mean by trading him now being a sell low.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Samardzija is better pitcher now, but.............."Dickey the CY award winner last season for 2 prospects" - Dickey's value was high very high after that title. The absolute worst time to buy.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Yea I'm not giving up Norris at all. Would hesitate on Pompey. Maybe something more along the lines of Sanchez + Nay + Chubby Mexican Chubby Mexican >/= Norris Chubby Mexican, no matter TJS, it's a safer option.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Why not target Hammel? What would he cost? He's not that good. IMO Hammel provides a small upgrade over what we currently have in the Regular Season and becomes even less valuable if we were to make the playoffs. And he's 32 in September. I want no part of an aging #4/5
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Yeah let's empty the farm instead. I'd rather patch things up by trading some mid tier prospects than to unload the farm for 1.5 years of control and still likely never sniff the playoffs. I wouldn't trade Nolin straight up for Hammel.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Sandwich a Morrow/McGowan diabetic tag team between Dickey and Buerhle Morrow/McGowan >>> Hammel
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I wouldn't trade Nolin straight up for Hammel. Assets depends on offer-demand and production at the time. Hammel is s*** but right now the Cubs have great asset in him.
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Sanchez, Pompey and Norris should almost be enough to pry both Zobrist and Price from the Rays. (We'd likely have to add another piece) That would be a far better option than "pay me 20+ mill a year" Shark That would be awesome but I don't think there is any way the Rays will trade two of their best players to a team in the same division... might as well throw in Longoria for this pipe dream.
