Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 How expensive is he gonna come? Considering we don't actually have 3 total regular outfielders employed for next year, could be worth a look. I have no idea how these things work, but while his age is a commodity, he's nowhere near Abreu/Cespedes/Puig level. The power will always be there, but he doesn't have the greatest discipline. Good ceiling but likely won't find it right away, that's not to say a good organization can work with him and turn him into a legit threat. Like I said though, he shouldn't get the kind of money that the aforementioned players did.

Could happen if he impresses one of the teams in workouts, which is entirely possible, but again I'm not great with contract hypotheticals. His agent will probably remind teams of the recent success of recently signed Cubans, so the Puig contract (which is a steal and a half) could get surpassed or matched by someone of lesser talent.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Yasmany Tomas Declared Free Agent Cuban slugger Yasmany Tomas has been granted free agency by Major League Baseball, according to a tweet from his agent, Jay Alou. The 23-year-old had already been cleared by OFAC, meaning he is now free to sign with any club. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/10/yasmany-tomas-declared-free-agent.html

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 No money to extend Melky = no money for the Elite Cuban guy. But we could likely by 2 Dominicans for 1 Cuban or what is the exchange rate on that?
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 No money to extend Melky = no money for the Elite Cuban guy. Oh there's money, when the time is right. They keep telling us that. Why would Rogers and AA lie?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 But we could likely by 2 Dominicans for 1 Cuban or what is the exchange rate on that? Let me see! $43 dominican pesos = $1 US $1 US = $10,000,000 Cuba pesos Democracy Vs Communism in disguise I prefer the Cuba fenomeno!!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Oh there's money, when the time is right. They keep telling us that. Why would Rogers and AA lie? 'cause he's Greek, and the Greeks lie and eat like motherf***ers. http://imageshack.com/a/img853/698/rvcl.gif

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I'm sure the Blue Jays will sign him He wont sign with the Jays. He can just sign with a southern team, and have his whole family come over on a boat in no time. Same benefits are not there with the Jays
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Unless the Jays FO makes it their mission to help bring his family over as part of the deal. Think stuff like that happens?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 He wont sign with the Jays. He can just sign with a southern team, and have his whole family come over on a boat in no time. Same benefits are not there with the Jays Except that there's no travel restrictions between Canada and Cuba like there are with the states... Though Cuba's not all that likely to allow the family of a high profile defector out of their sights too easily.

Same benefits are not there with the Jays I'm pretty sure the challenge is for the family to get to the USA from Cuba. This seems a LOT more challenging than travelling from Miami to Toronto...
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 should have kept Hech....... would be easier to get these guys signed with a Cuban already on board
