NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 How much would it take to make them quit? Not like nobody ever quit university! Lol Exactly. You're not 'confirmed' to go to school until the signing dealine passes.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Sucks losing that slot money...
SJE32 Verified Member Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 If ZZ does not sign, somebody from the Jays front office should be accountable for throwing away $192,000 in cap space. The amount does not seem that much but that could be important when trying to sign some the post 10th round picks. Surely you could have found a senior and signed him for anything. ZZ in just a guy.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I think this is what they call a shakedown. Shake down, break down, your busted! Lol

I thought this too when the draft was happening. Instead of the usual college senior punted picks.. They went with juniors. They must be really confident in their savings on Pentecost and Hoffman.

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Do we get that pick back next year?
mitchf Verified Member Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 In this year draft, Hoffman and Pentecost was the "save picks". The problem is that Hoffman and Pentecost have qualified agents who understand that they're in the position of power.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 The problem is that Hoffman and Pentecost have qualified agents who understand that they're in the position of power. How are they in a position of power?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Hoffman has no power hahahahaha http://gifatron.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/theoden-you-have-no-power-here-288x100.gif

Hoffman has no power hahahahaha http://gifatron.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/theoden-you-have-no-power-here-288x100.gif Look I'm not saying they won't sign. They have to sign. It's just going to take time for the Jays to finally give that extra 100k that will end up being so important to both sides. Also what a terrible use of that picture
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 That's a different thing than saying they're not in a position of power. I dunno about Pentecost but Hoffman would be taking a MASSIVE risk in passing up the money now, especially considering a team wouldn't be supervising his recovery.

It's really quite simple, both players want to sign. That's obvious, they were drafted high and have reasons as to why it benefits them. It's about the Jays being very firm with their stance on draftees and agents looking to maximize value. These two players will get every last cent that they can and the Jays will take their sweet time before giving in.

Both picks are protected and both Hoffman and Pentecost have TONS to lose based on where they were drafted.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the #11 pick is protected. I thought if you failed to sign the player with a comp pick, that you lose it.
