I didn't "go off", he asked how I viewed his offense the way I do, and I answered. I wondered why target a 2B when it's already a reasonably strong area? I'm not getting back into this, but I've had many things I've done criticized in similar ways and a trade gives an open floor for discussion.

A 50 run grade for a catcher is quite good and is somewhat of an indicator of plus athleticism for the position. Although, you want to see plus defense behind the plate if you can play average defence and hit you're going to be a valuable player in the MLB. I also don't really care what a scout has to say about a catcher's defence when they are 3-4 yrs away from the majors, that's something that will depend on the Jays ability to develop him and highly unpredictable.

I'll buy the athletic label I guess then, when you think of a guy moving off C, 2B isn't exactly what leaps to mind.

 

You're right, he's more of a solid athlete like a Brett Lawrie than an elite level athlete like a Mike Trout. I think we can all agree that Brett's pretty athletic though, even if he's not elite.
